almost a year since my last post. hope no one reads this no one discovers this i really would like a blog totally locked now. kinda like a diary not supposed to be read by random ppl rite.

two days to a level results. is hard work always rewarded? unfortunately we all know the answer is no. i've had one too many random non-As appear, even after hard work. yes, hard is subjective. but objectively viewed, i dun think it is diminished anywhat. well, after fri, triumph or obliteration (borrowed from the new jedi order: the unifying force).

out on an mc from the army for a lung infection. took some time to arrange some music, things which inspire me and remind me what i live for (certainly not brandishing guns and cowering to mindless invective). but somehow, i cant get JUST DANCE by gaga to sound right for strings. tried reading up, listening to violin renditions on youtube (god ARGH), but still cant get the sound i want. closest is double bass pizzicato. I still dont believe its a limit of the instrument. only my technique (totally raw random sucky) or maybe the program's sound synthesizers? (heh deflecting blame).

and fml add that to my stress fracture recently diagnosed on my left tibia. cant run. boom. something great taken out of my life. there's still the bike, but its time consuming to take out, the roads are becoming less safe (think poor rsaf major) and i dont cycle at night. I value life over thrills, strange for a biker eh? im probably one of the 1% in my age group who actually cycles with a helmet. swimming? its the pool. 1/10 for stress relief (lol i have a stress fracture lollol). but oh well i see opportunity to improve my cycling skills. which leave a lot to be desired. prob shld join AW and the fast guys at ecp again. BUT, theres that full time job i have now that sort of rules me out. guess another part of my life is now gone.

uni apps, uni apps. fk so many stanford, oxbridge rejected. i havent tried yet. but why shld/will it be any different for me? oh well. life now isnt going that great. i guess its the 18 year old's crisis. whatever i decide to do now will change the course of my future (dramatic words from some fantasy movie). i really do want to do music. composing or performance really sparks my interest. but in today's world driven by pragmatism (lol a gp cliche), a pure music degree is even to me a strict no-no. margaret mentioned columbia-julliard. maybe. columbia? 6% chance maybe. julliard? I cant even touch itzhak perlman's feet, and hes on a wheelchair (lol?). maybe its time for some serious self-improvement and all that (i really regret not taking music seriously but no thanks to YOU). maybe my dream will come true haha. in 10 years we'll see.

been listening to a lot of pop music. like a lot. but i dun like any. maybe its my problem? mraz, perry, gomez, carey, spears, lovato, jonas, cyrus (heh like somewhat) fall flat. after a day of listening, my ipod switched back to jascha heifetz- sibelius allegro moderato. !@#@ yeah. that's real music.

idk wth was wrong, bike split was 30.9kph like crawling. and i was on aero gear somemore like wtheck some loser. expected 34-36. sigh oh well.

died up those two hills in the last 2k. torturous man. but i really had fun up till those last 2k. but the cold took its toll on me the first 1k liao. glanced at my watch wtheck 3:45min/km pace. lesson learnt: nevarr follow the pack.

mugging season starts now. heh time to throw this all away and conc on conc H2S04 or smthing likethat.

shall just ramble a bit abt musicfest.

did a solo job this time. thankfully there were tons of great ppl to support me ie house capt leonard chloe and the gang of great players. Arranged based on musicality, not popularity. oh well except gaga.

got 3rd. sort of improved from last year's 4th. However, the acoustics did work terribly against us. wonder why it was so bad even though i spent around 4-5h trying to tweak the mikes. Oh well :)

MR first. well deserved indeed. if i had spent more time refining the piece, might have come closer to equalling their awesome piece. but im just not that good enough. and BW best arrangement. u really have to give it to hongrui for impressing everyone with that medley of great themes and best of all, there was some evidence of linkage. Best arrangement truly well deserved indeed.

and how do i feel abt mine? personally it sounded rather good on sibelius, but in real life there were many problems. I've faced all kinds of criticisms about my playing/musicianship/style in these long years (mostly well deserved), but ive still to come to terms with what gooi said about my arrangement. rather demeaning mini- this and mini-that. It's rather true I guess, and i felt it was rather reflective of the arrangement i guess. heh i shld prob just accept this and move on to the next arrangement. with is gonna be an awesome octet/ whatever ucall a nine ppl grp for chamber concert. haha this time im gonna have the best arranger in rj zhiyi to help me. hurray.

this time, Im really out to write a mini-medley. for 9-10 awesome players.

ps i realised i got 38/145 for my category in OCBC. 1h7min40secs, average speed 35.47kph. Not bad i guess for almost one month of not training (not even riding argh!!) to do musicfest; but really gave it my all that day. wei rong smoked the course in my hummer MTB though, only 2 min behind me. shld improve by 5 min if he gets a road bike. woohoo!

Argh my phone spoil! Argh i sound like some whiny teenage girl but...argh my phone spoil!

Oh well i didnt expect it to last more than 90 days though :) is my old N80...it was like a total regression into total epic failure. now i cant even read msgs i get, or make phone calls lasting more than 2 min even with full battery charge (eat ur heart out u supernormal profit making nok**!!) So if im daoing ur msgs or calls or whatever...its nok**'s fault! ive alrdy apologised to some ppl in person heh...

and thanks jk for letting me use ur trusty, iphone-damn-hard-to-type-ripoff Samsung omnia ii to send msgs that are totally covered under your 500 free msgs heh :) hopefully i'll get a new phone soon.

Promos result back! Quite depressing...its so hard to get A meh? its like only a 3.6.....rite. must work harder next year lor. maybe take econs h3 who knows. But H3 is like the in thing leh...but prob i just dun have the capacity for hard work.

Random: Listening to Beethoven's 9th Symphony (again). Its really da greatest symphony ever! Just read forums with passionate advocates arguing for their thoughts on the greatest symphony ever. While Mahler 9, Bruckner 8 comes close...Beethoven 9 is just simpler (WAY simpler), but pure genius. My favourite symphonies shld now be in this order (Changes every week)

wow just finished watching the Phantom of the Opera movie directed by Joel Schumacher.

Wow, it brought tears to my eyes. Damn surprising, cause im the most un emo guy u or i can think of (srsly)...thus implying the show was really touching. I don't think it was really good or particularly did justice to Webber's brilliant BRILLIANT numbers, but yeah i guess the music alone was kinda enough to make we wanna curl up in some corner and cry. ok that was too melodramatic. Spillover effects (ha externalities) from the movie?

There are some pretty fast guys at Tampines Stadium. How does one reel off 1:10 laps one after another? Hopefully I'l have the answers soon. Oh yeah time to hit the gym soon. Stonewalled considering our sch's gym only opens at 2pm. Yeah i wentat 830am and told a PE teacher in his face "Huh i thought the gym open 24/7". Srsly.
Then again upon further reflection, theres no huge orange "7" sign and the greenishlike words "Eleven" plastered across it on top of the gym doors. So i might have been mistaken.

and WOW borrowed a violin from Ambercraft....I think i gained 20% of technique playing on it. Not very expensive, but control is superb and it draws a wonderful mellow sound over the G to A strings, but kinda gets nasal over the higher registers of the E string. Considering using it for the Happy Birthday concert on Tues, since performing well actually garners (jennifer!) good marks for it. Hopefully when i get my real violin back it'll respond as well as this one. The Havanaise running passages are chicken to play on a responsive violin heh :):)

Musing over Lance Armstrong, the World's Greatest Champion by John Wilcockson now. Its quite insightful. And some Star Wars books. Haha im def getting affected by a certain English teacher's claim that all fiction books are useless. Well its true from a GP point anw. An overactive imagination isnt gonna get u far in GP, unless u have zhiyi's imagination and a particularly sympathetic essay qn. Case in point: read his KS bull essay on the revelance of media. couldnt help spelling that way as many pronounce it so.

Btw Wanjiru took the Chicago course record at 2:05:11. Thats around a 7 min 2.4 for 42 km. Just when u thought ur 2.4km timing was ownage.... ....

OMG ALIAS SUCKS!

well its a TV show. Just blew 40 bucks on the second season. Must get the first season to get coherence i guess. but it still sucks! argh! i think 24's too good liao.

finished 1st season of prison break. that sucks too! lol! cant believe they take one whole season

on a ok not so simple prison escape plan. then still not resolved by season's end!!

ultimately 24's still the best.

and I have a !@#@#!@ busy nov/dec ahead of me, finished up nicely by the jan mahler 1 concert.

then school will have started. back to mugging for an alltoimpt jc2 common test 1.

on a brighter note, my fitness is coming back :) its really 80% work, 20% talent i think. actually its sort of like conditional probability. Cause if ur damn talented u will train more. if u suck (like me) then u wont feel motivated to train. Cause u hit this wall of physiological capacity. but dammit i will not get overtaken by random guys on tri bikes at ecp again :)

k this was all typed in around 3 min. going tampines stadium tmr. got two new training partners, for my two fav sports :):):):):):) yay.

and thanks to RJ's hectic insane lifestyle im losing fitness. like a hell lot of it. wouldnt be surprised if my vo2's dropped to 40 or worse.

on a side note, probably damn lag but Bolt's broken the WR for 100m and 200m again with a .11 sec improvement over both from Beijing. Bottom line: this guy has done what his predecessors took 17 years to. Clean? Another Ben Johnson? Well we know that dopers are miles ahead of their testers, esp with stuff like MISCERA on the loose. so....well hope he delivers those sub 19.3 and 9.5 performances soon. At 22, and with the maximum tailspeed allowed 2m/s (hope he gets lucky on his next WR attempt eh), he sure has a bright future. Sorry Powell, ur time is up.

butbut the Bolt of distance running has to be Bekele for sure. bekele bekele bekele. Google news his name and you'll see how Bolt has put him in the shade. Everytime i watch a youtube vid of this man, I just wanna call it quits. Someone who can run 9600m then turn in a 53 sec final lap at an average of sub 2.30 per km. CAnt wait till he moves to the marathon. predict he'll shatter gebrselassie's WR by 30 secs at least, given that hes beat him by 2sec over 5k and 5secs over 10k by now. cant wait for his 5k record attempt soon.

Argh this is the second attempt at a new post in...3 days? shall narrate da fail happenings.

Attempted to blog in a library. i mean the library. the rj one. Happily ranted, bitched about (whoops thats for girls only), moaned, grumbled, launched into a tirade against all sorts of things and people (least of all the impending teachers day celebration that was gonna take up 1h of my life. not that it wasnt good. i wouldnt know. whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopsssss xd). Then happily clicked "publish post". whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooopsss (second one).

the com screen happily (i would guess so) displayed some runtime error thing. or some other error. bottom line, my post was gone. and this one didnt autosave post unlike my trusty homecom!!! so my heartwrenching, heartfelt 500 word post was gone. moral of the story?

nope its not dun blog in library. its dun blog on an imac in the library. isit a coincidence that the windows coms get snapped up way before the imacs do? oh wait thats why i managed to land an imac after wasting 30 min in canteen talking to random ppl eh....

Anw, didnt blog for a long time....yeah was feeling quite pissed off over a trio thing (some collaboration with rjpianoensemble the piano pros) cause it was gonna get cancelled over clashing with an econs test =.= i understand the rationale, but our stellar and inexplicable music department made it sound like this thing has no precedence whatsoever cause we're not representing the school. OKFINE we're not a sports cca. so?

that being said, I have nothingnothing whatsoever against sportsccas. Music ppl forgive me, but i understand now what sports ppl go thru to get their medals, compared with musicalgroups just exercising fingers and arms for glory once every two years lasting a full 7 minutes on stage (those arent my words). Sports demands a lot from mind and body, music comps to me (well at this level) simply depends on whether an individual wants to turn up for rehearsal or not. and oh yeah whether he/she can be bothered to practice ensemble pieces at home just once a week (honestly, i cant). So...*respect*

That being said, I still love RJchamber more than ever :) but everytime the efforts of our good batch seems to be getting stonewalled. Its like we are damn enthu about a concert than we rush up and grab our instruments and we....hit a stone wall. yeah stonewalled. Wats wrong with having an outside sch concert for just once in our measly two years in RJ? Whats wrong with us putting up a concert in an SYF year? We cant cope? Please, we train once a week. Well, if u can call that training. And some sports groups have two seasons a year. or more. And they certainly train more than once a week (not some of my sports friends though......whoops pon). So whats this about us not being able to cope or whatnot? Thus, I have drawn two conclusions.

1. Not trying to point out the obvious, but maybemaybe just maybe (a tinnylittlemaybe) someone high up and mighty doesnt view music ccas on par with sports? (again this is a JUSTMAYBE)

2. Someone more close to home is invidiously stonewalling us. (yes speculate on this urself. hint? errr that person is kinda old enough to be equivalent to the life of my favourite tree planted outside my beloved hdb block).

That being said, I have two other damn pro music groups, equally pro as RJCE which kicks ass. YO and OMM. Thus I am still getting my musical "training" and "experience" elsewhere. that being said, im still a horrible player, but im improving. How about other ppl just in rjce! hopefully our gallant exco can do something abt this eh. at least lets have one concert outside sch next year eh =) not that I hate the PAC or anything (old PAC joke by nichsien pops up "where do u find corn in the PAC?????

......the corner!!!" ok insert a dramatic pause somewhere and that might actually be funny. oh yeah and insert fake laughter too please. ok backontrack (yeah love running) but err if u have to choose between performing in the PAC and in the NAFA whateveritiscalled concerthall....err only the person who-is-as-old-as-the-tree-outside-my-beloved-hdb-block will choose PAC. oh yeah and two other random people. dun get it, theres always two random people choosing to kiss ass. ) and finally disclaimer...all names implied in the abovementionedpost are err...fictional and invalid? all products of my sick imagination. darn that reminds me of enthalpy change of reaction...its sum of enthalpies of formation of products minus sum of enthalpies of formation of reactants. Yep im mugging chem energetics now for those who are dim witted enough not to realise.

K need to get back to mugging. shall post abt the TWO omm concerts (in five days), us getting the HSBC youth excellence award (YAY WOOT XD XOXO) *btw anyone knows whats XOXO* and err my piano trio thing. and my love life. k bye!

Haha blogging from the library...have no idea why but im damn bored, sian blah blah

I can safely say the past two weeks have been the most hectic in my jc life so far....thanks to a confluence of omm, random pw stuffs and YO. and the piano trio thing (a collaboration with piano ensemble which might be cancelled which will srsly piss me off). Its like omm has two concerts within five days, Rach^2 on Fri and HSBC Youth Excellence on Tues zomg! so it was basically one end-at-1030pm rehearsal after another. Had to miss some YO :( opportunity cost eh :( :( :( HA my YO attendance last concertseason was 81%!!!!! but now just 50& i guess :( have to gooooo for more rehearsals i guess.

but omm was worth it :) realised how noob i am sitting beside shanghui and how far i still have left to go. learnt loads from just being in rehearsals and watching my section mates play....and my stand partner was actually my vln teacher during HSBC! haha but i was damn tired during the concert almost fell asleep during the rach and beethoven romance =.= but gabriel ng is damn imba his paganini was like. magic. srsly.

Haha now learning the bruch violin concerto no. 1 which i used to dislike but like now. weird eh :( prefer no. 2 but the finale of no. 1 is not bad. though milstein found it kinda weak? And the heifetz recording is the definitive one which i go back to :)

but ARGHHHHH the piano ensemble thing might be cancelled. Playing brahms trio no. 1 scherzo in B...damn nice! love the trio melody esp....apparently the sch's cancelling this perf as it clashes with some econs non graded case study test. wtf we spent a lot of time practicing lor, if this is the kind of attitude u wanna show us (oh it clashes lets just cancel it then) without giving anything but a superficial reply slash dismissal, then i have nothing to say. and yeah i wont waste my time again so there. Missed some YO, OMM, other stuff just to prac lor :(

k have to go for tchr day celebration now. WASTE OF TIME. i mean not. must be politically correct. and yuchen's beside me mumbling crap. as usual. ha shall beat him in promos. hope he sees this :)

National Runway Cycling and Skating 2009

National Runway Cycling and Skating was today! Did the 45km endurance challenge as usual (its not a race k for people thinking it is). OMG i totally like died on the route. Cause of my lack of cycling specific fitness. All those long runs not gonna help ur bike performance. Legs gave out in the first half of the second lap (cause i was like racing this triathlete on a Trek Equinox 9.5 with zipps 808 and disk omgomg damn nice) at around 38 T.T Wasted energy :(

NOt cycling in the past 3 weeks really took its toll :( sorrie yu chen wherever u are i never cycled at all k! totally no time :( and got owned by vic, who was faster than me by like 10 seconds. He was some damn nice draftting target, everyone wants his wheel (cause hes damn big sized, more draft-efficient eh!!)

Huzzzzzzzzzzzzah its the June hols! 4 weeks of blissful hols? Haha not likely to happen since CTs are right after the hols. It seems kinda brilliant eh to put CTs after a 4 week hol. Bright side: no more Rafflesian-style mugging aka midnight chiong super worried mugging. Down side: hols are not hols anymore. Even though theres only like 4 subjects ("only"), I have lots lots lots of catching up to do. See la who ask you go slack for the first six months of hols. Lol. Sian.

Oh ya forgot to mention i actually joined YO. Yeah they let a 17 year old in. (hey 17 yr old is still "youth" ok.) Besides my screwed up audition, my first YO prac was actually quite memorable. Love the pieces- Brahms 4 and some Summer Rhapsody thingy, and Wieniawski VC 2! Haha and i got scolded lets see 1 no 2 no 3 no yes 4 times by Mr Lim. Nvm we all know that was the first and last time eh :)

Yep as 'A' whoever it is said, I shall update now.

Strings SYF was held on 29 April at Republic Poly. Though there was much contention about the ivory tower standards applied unprecedently by the judges this time, music judging is and will always be subjective, esp. when all there are so many different variables in the competitors- eg. different pieces, different conductors, different interpretation...unlike say the Tchaikovsky music competition where everyone plays basically almost the same repertoire thus judgement tends much more towards objectivity. Yes, RIJC got Gold with Honours, and I must say our playing warranted it. Though there were some minor squibbles over Nielsen intonation and Shostakovich tempo changes (wow it was damn abrupt in figure 22), we def played our hearts out and it turned out way better than I hoped.

However, I and lumps couldnt really be happy, cause of a particular result which mentioning anymore will do no good. I'm certainly not qualified to judge anyone's playing (even with the existence of ahem ahem recorded documents), but based on effort put in alone, they should have secured top honours. Though I didnt hear them play (not from lack of trying!), I knew what kind of performance they must have put up. They know what they want. However, instead of blaming the judges or themselves, just let it go, as SYF isnt everything. And the week after was elections. Well, even though I ran for certain posts, I didnt get it, which I emoed for two minutes then stopped emoing. Congratulations to the 5 new exco who certainly deserved it more than me (at least in terms of VISION), haha better plan more concerts k. I certainly dun plan on vegetating as a musician in RIJC.

Oh yes and I'm playing for VJC concert this Sat haha! My third time guest playing liao, only this time under a different conductor. Very ambitious programme, Beethoven 5th Finale, Pirates (Again!?!?), Some "The Bat" Quartet by Strauss, and dig this...Polotvesian Dances by Borodin! Hahahahahahahahaha. I love this piece. Though tempi is somewhat slow......

Haha and my bike career has suffered greatly. Stress, distraction, indifference? I train barely thrice a week now, compared to 4-5 times in sec 4 (OMG THOSE were the days) and paid the price in my Malaysia trip on Labour Day. Though the terrain was very tough (at least 15 undulating hills of avrg gradient 5%), it was no excuse as I completely bonked out of energy after 66km, and had to cab back to the jetty. Argh how embarrasing. Back, calf and spirit pain =( Well, i'll have to squeeze out more trng time i guess. And do back extensions at the gym (damn high risk injure ur back one).

To end off, COME SUPPORT ME (and deb and hongrui) at VJC concert this SAt!!! ITs at VJC =.= so haha come down for a night of damn power music. This is the kind of concert which throws the stereotypical boring classical music out of the window, so for cynics, come down in full force kk! ^^^^^^^^^

Topic: Time trial/triathlon bikes

A time trial bike is used in races where the course is almost completely flat. The special features of time trial bikes are basically aerobars which are two bar-like extensions that protrude out front for the cyclist to grab hold of. Gear shifters are placed on top of the bars to facilitate shifting while in the aerodynamic position. Thus the cyclist is forced into a crouching forward, flat back position, which wind tunnel tests have found to be the most aerodynamic LEGAL position. (Hint hint there are even more aerodynamic positions, but are banned by the UCI, cycling's international governing body). For the layman, the more aerodynamic your position is, the faster you will be in races with NO EXTRA EFFORT required.

TT bikes are usually heavier than road bikes, and are more expensive due to the extremely tricky construction process. Carbon fibre is usually the material of choice, due to its unmatched stiffness-to-weight ratio and its ability to be molded into almost anything. Class camp next week at Pulau Ubin! Mon-Tues. Cant' wait esp if it would get physical. My last PU cycling trip wasnt that great....rmb chancing upon a herd of german shephard dogs and getting the stuffing scared out of me. But we're going this time under certified qualified trainers so it should turn out safe and OK! Haha just hoping it doesnt rain. Lets all do the SunDance now...........

Eventful stuffs this week: OMGOMG i sound like some shameless showoff but i ran my mock 2.4 in under 10 min OMGOMGOMGOMG. YAYYAYYAY. Looks like interval training paid off =) Am I getting the running bug? Only time will tell. But my flat feet complicates things, i dun think i can run for more than 10km at a stretch before getting muscular pain, even with my orthotics =( haha I'm looking for a new pair of running shoes! Anyone wants to follow me to Running Lab at Velocity?? or Novena Square or Funan I think. Shoes Im eyeing...

As for my tri bike, went to Bike Boutique on Mon to view the Cervelos. The P4 is out! Sexy, black, slim and highly aerodynamic. Pity the frame alone costs a whooping 7-8k I think. Speed doesnt come cheap =( the P2SL looks like crap even though the frame is "only" 1k!! Wanted the P2C, but the 2008 model's frame is 2.5K! thus complete bike around 6K. Wha. Bikes damn expensive eh.

Shosty was much better. only that I want to shake away the image of only being able to play fast pieces! Looks like I need more slow bow, slow vib work. Like I havent been working on that alrdy.

Haiz nothing ever comes easy, whether its being tehnically proficient, a good runner or a fast cyclist. or good at studies. But we shall try our best yeh (quoting GS).

Time for a really long post. Just didnt have the motivation to blog these previous few days.

Hols are almost over. Well its Sunday so I guess this is the last day. For me, every last day of hols is meant for chionging hw. Which I am doing now. Oh wait what am i doing here....haha i'll take the typing here as warm up for my GP essay outline =)

Chamber camp was....fun but brief. I would be lying if I said I enjoyed it as much as RISE camps (camps from sec 1-3, 4 not counted because a certain someone was breathing down my neck relentlessly), but the fun element was there nonetheless. Went to watch musicfeste first on Fri, I ended up being super inspired by all five houses. The quality of arrangements and transcriptions were superb! Though BB winning sparked off some controversy, haha I know this sounds cliched but I believe the standards of all five houses were very very close. (Except for one house which I will decline to name didnt really impress me). HAha perhaps I shall lend a hand to HH's musicfeste efforts for the next year.

After musicfeste was rehearsal! Ok late night rehearsals are not exactly very energy-filled, and I cant rmb much except sitting beside sydney who has a very sore throat and thus had a 100% more manly and sexy voice. seriously. Anw on to more fun stuff.

Night games! I somehow became the leader for one of the grps after kuangtus staged a no-show during the "elections"...anw the most memorable moment was when our group had to play either nielsen or shostakovich from memory. We chose shostakovich and I screwed it up in one of the most unglam and embarrasing moments of my ensemble career. People who missed it, never fret, just get the video from margaret or one of the exco. Couldnt rmb a thing really let everyone down =( Shall resolve to practice MORE. (which I actually did amazingly). Anw in the same comp, zhiyi sang the violin 1 part. Which is too terrible to describe. A video is available too=)

Bridge until 3am! Ruiheng in the form of a newly-inducted hardcore NS-er came back and organised this late night 2.4km run haha! I actually went in my Adidas posing shoes (not for running!) SURPRISINGLY I didnt get calf cramps haha I have this very bad flat feet without orthotics it might as well be some killer session. But I felt quite strong and maanaged a 8:40 for 5 laps, I know its very slow I'm working on it. More interval trainings, tempo runs, brick workouts.....all coming my way. Haha my goal was to lap ruiheng but he improved a lot from NS man! I was damn impressed NS really changes people. Skali zhiyi when he returns becomes a sinewnly-muscled, chiseled, tanned commando who will bark at u to get down into pumping position. Haha lol someone do the photoshop!! And I also realised its damn easy to say before/after the run "I could have gone faster" or "I'll lap you next ti,e", but when you're actually out there running at lactate threshold and gasping for oxygen, it becomes tortorous. Yeah you heard me running at LT really sucks. And haha I stopped eyeing the yellow Adidas trainers tryphe! Prob going down to Running lab at novena or funan sometime soon to pick up some very fast racers. Adizero and Newton caught my eye....super lightweight and flashy.

Then we ordered McDonalds and wanted to play more but the gals chickened out (probably from the McChickens....) and went to sleep. Being gentlemanly and the sort, we too went to sleep. Amazingly I didnt fall off the table though. I reckon I toss and turn a lot in bed. But thankfully, it kinda sucks to wake up on the floor with the sharp pain of broken bones. Later was captain's ball and soccer! haha Jinghui is really imba he can play any sport damn well! Yaya reiterating what most ppl observed someone increased his/her game when he appeared. DAmn obvious but I wasnt laughing, I was laughing at ppl who scrambled to get out of the way when the ball rolled to them. no no no shanin haha. Then was super-shortened sectionals then camp break where we went for lunch and I ACTUALLY WENT FOR YOUTH GOT HEART. dragged there by some stubborn person haha. I think I cabbed home after that cant rmb lugging my heavy whatever-bag-u-call-it home. Thus ended chamber camp.

Haha March hols were even MORE interesting. Fri I had class outing at ECP with six other guys! Basically we went to ECP and rented five normal bikes plus one tandem. Haha my poor impression of ECP rented bikes actually shot up a notch, they're not that outdated and slow (think steel, single-speed bikes), and the gear shifting and derailleur quality is actually OK once u get used to the desperate attemps to change gear and subsequent blistering! Phew thankfully I brought gloves saved me from painful violin playing the days after =) The rubber grips on the bikes are nothing but blister-inducing. Haha most memorable moment was Hari and Angel on the tandem with Hari pedalling for his life to prove his manliness and strength to ....? And me not bothering to catch up haha. LUCKILY LUCKILY once we returned our bikes THEN the rain increased in intensity. BTW kids, cycling in heavy rain is very dangerous, not to mention you feel very shitty while doing it. I recall the previous Sat, I was returning from training on my racer. Was in the middle of two lanes abt to switch when the mighty storm clouds decided to unleash their horror upon mankind (actually just a acute concentration of water droplets). OMG it rates amongst one of the most scary moments of my cycling career, sandwitches between cars going at 50km/h while visibility was at an all-time low. So lesson learned- no cycling on road when the sky spells trouble! (Note to self: I'm glad you're still alive!)

After cycling WHICH WAS A HUGE SUCCESS, we went to watch Dragonball Evolution. The special effects were great though it was too short. And the kissing scene happened to early. not that I watch movies for the kissing scene but YEAH it was way too early haha. Where's all the buildup and suspense leading to that lol! And cheesy pasta is too...cheesy. You'll get sick of it after eating one quarter. so lesson learned, BUY NACHOS NEXT TIME. I had to rush off after that to go somewhere to do something. Ok that helps but nvm....

Wed was CHAMBER OUTING CUM YO CONCERT SUPPORT SESSION. Went to ECP again in the morn HAHAHA. to cycle. Im influential see? this time only six ppl turned up thanks to shanin who ditched us for something comparatively trivial (what can compare to inter-CCA bonding besides covalent bonds?) and kc who backed out due to family problems. Anw the weather was great, cool, clear and I enjoyed myself despite not making either Changi Village OR the macdonalds. Yeah the speed was a little slow....anw poor xinghe crashed into this middle aged guy head on and the guy started SPOUTING profanities at him and bullying zhaokai. He was riding some Cannondale noob aluminium bike and acted like it was a $10000 Trek Madone. WTF what a vulgar asshole, such a small crash at most jerk the chain out of the chainring, no need to act like ur spokes will become out of true or ur derailleur unhinged rite!?!? If ur lousy cheapskate paint becomes scratched, take it up with CannAsia! Anw he sort of 'let' xh off after REPEATED VULGAR scolding backed up with a screwed up face spelling violence at every twitch of his "manly" facial features. What a loser no wonder people say cyclists in Singapore are inconsiderate and vulgar. I sort of had a staring showdown with him thrice but he didnt dare say anything cause of my attire perhaps haha. anw what a loser...

After cycling, WHICH WAS STILL DAMN ENJOYABLE AND SUCCESSFUL, we went to err Daiso or smting like that to buy presents for our seniors in YO. Haha for ALL of the creative writings (and witty/lame stuffs) written on the cards, credit goes to me k? Who wants another lame "Dear XXX you're a great senior we love u always!". So I spiced things up a bit =) Ive no idea why serene got a pig. Maybe cause zhiyi chose it.

The concert itself was...rather brief but acceptable. The Verdi overture was great, melodic sounding enough to appeal to more superficial audiences, but also showcasing the virtuosity of particularly the string sections. I was impressed by the first vln section they play as if stuck by super glue! Tightness of ensemble was very impressive and showed lots of practice-time allocated to such perfection. Haha and Davin looked pro =) The Vivaldi saw many members of the orch retreating backstage due to the small orch Baroque pieces call for. It was rather short, not really Romantic-concerto length (duh?), but still enjoyable as a whole. Though the intonation of both soloists werent quite cohesive at times (one used tempered intonation i think the other didnt) but tonal projection and clarity of articulation was still there, both are vital for a Baroque concerto to succeed. But But I still think Vivaldi composed the same concerto 600 times! (EXCEPT for the four seasons those are really really his masterpieces). Finally, the "Eroica". Haha, I really like this work, and YO did a decent job in interpretation, but I felt nervous energy inherent in this revolutionary piece was lacking. Recordings which spring to mind include Reiner/CSO and Bernstein/NYPO which are famous for a reason, tension is so inherent and greatly controlled on those renditions. Perhaps tension and excitement not on a fifth-symphony-scale, but still has to be there! We all know Beethoven's odd-numbered symphonies are the exciting and grandiose ones, so haha show it! And I was really disappointed by the entry of the second subject, the very exotic wind solo. The strings were louder than the winds lol! haha and the rhythm there was not exactly right. But all in all, quite enjoyable except that I almost fell asleep during the Funeral March. More of Beethoven's fault than the orch's though =) I still prefer his slow movements from the First, Second, Seventh and Ninth symphonies.

And the encore! Pirates of the Carribean twice!!?? Not much comments except it was interesting to see the eye patches and bandanas? and Mr Lim's fell off midway during the second performance I think causing some laughter. Unfortunately many people were already bowing their heads in boredom so laughter was kinda muted as not many ppl noticed. But still great solos from adriel (impressed), the swaggering feeling was definitely there! and the orch sounds and plays great, particularly the strings =)

Haha i was waving like an idiot to mich soh at the end, apparently she saw it but couldnt respond due to the concert being flimed? Lol haha whoops so much for my antics =( went off to a short supper session at macs before mrt-ing home with the usual "East-siders".

Finally Finally Thurs was class camp!! J1 exclusive chamber prac in the morn firstly. OK, it didnt go that well. People there would understand why but I felt that it was my responsibility to tell you in your face if you are giving me, the J1s and inevitably the whole orch crap. Playing perfectly is not always the desirable end, but STRIVING there must always be evident. And Jian Yang showed true section leader capabilities by demonstrating an uncanny knowledge of the score. well done =) Anw progress was definitely made, but could have been much more. Didnt help that only one violist turned up.

CLASS PARTY WAS SO UBER FUN XDXDXD LOVED IT =) =) <3 <3 <3 Haha went to WeiChong's exclusive condo Regentville at Hougang with Angel and okok admitting it we got so lostlostlostlost thanks to my manly capable superb navigation skills. LESSON LEARNED: never put me in a plane cockpit I'll fly to Iraq and get shot down. Anw it was prob my fault for not printing out the map. haha anw bbqing and playing cards was very very till around 9pm where we decided to go for a swim. Plus 1 minus 1 was damn fun haha exposing people with poor mathematical and rxn skills! Luckily no one got scratched =)

Lol the swimming was very...unusual. I only brought along this man u soccer shorts which was white and damn revealing =.= anw there were loads of photos taken its on my facebook maybe I'll post one or two here. I think it was more camwhoring session than swimming session thanks to HAROLD who showed his superb photographic skills and his horny side by proclaiming "Shuang Gan" to the world everything after he took a photo. ok shuang gan = good feeling? Then we went home where i managed to catch the last train to marina bay and THEN to pasir ris thanks to angel's lift. thanks thanks thanks =) =) my father would have been so pissed off if he had to go pick me up haha. Waking him up from his slumber (or muscle-building period, as he puts it). Anw the swimming rocked and I really really enjoyed myself thanks weichong =)=)

Lol and OMM! (Orch of Music Makers). Though the Brahms concert wasnt that great,I still REALLY REALLY enjoyed myself. Though it was DAMN stressful sitting on third desk outside facing the audience, with SHANGHUI THE FREAKING IMBA KING right in front of me. I mean the guy doesnt make mistakes and possesses the most incredible sight reading and counting skills ive ever encountered. anw the week after the concert had a recording session at YST again. My first "real" recording session haha the end product sounds great! Buy the CD =)=)

OCBC 40km Race

OCBC Race. Yeah haha I took part in this inaugural race. The 40km Challenge. Bleax.

Just got in the results. 408th place overall with a time of 1:13:01 over 41.9 km! that makes my average speed around 34km/h? Although the official distance was 40km, my speedo and vic's read 41.9. So yeah. I'm still disappointed with the results, could have gone faster during the race, slowed a lot during corners (my cornering sucks), and probably should have sat on the wheel of a faster rider to save energy (I was riding solo most of the time). Not to mention the small matter of me being still sick, I had a coughing fit when the race hit East Coast...all the other competitors were scrambling to get the hell away from me YEAH! haha but when the race reached ECP I was damn happy. Guess why cause thats my terrain. Haha. Dropped almost everyone around 37km/h cause I knew exactly how to pace myself there. Haha the benefits of training at ECP is evident now yay.

Almost crashed though a few nasty scares. The corners were very narrow, only 3 riders could take them at a time, so heh it was VERY scary I slowed to almost 25km/h and wasted energy accelerating after the bend. And at the 5km to go mark, I dropped my bottle full of Lemon-Lime 100 Plus! FREEEEK! And the stupid part was, the bottle was jittering all the way throughout, I was damn scared it would fly out over a hump. but FRICK FRICK stupid it flew out of my hand after I grabbed it for a drink ARGH. and I braked instantly LUCKILY there was no one on my wheel. Vic wasn't so lucky though I think he flipped off his bike after a corner. Luckily he escaped with bruises.

And omg there was this damn scary descent near the end and wth it was a sharp bend; riders take it around 45+km/h!? Saw one guy wincing in pain and lying on the road at the bottom of that tunnel. Guess he crashed, probably fractured his arm as we all noticed this rider with a bandaged arm after the race. So hmm its really...dangerous. Pardon the language, but here comes the famous cycling saying. The top cyclists in the world, particularly those in the Tour de France, all have a very big set of balls. Armstrong only has one, but it's a very big one. Heh.

Anw hope to do better in the event next yr. aiming for sub 1:10 hopefully its possible. I didnt really feel overly-taxed during the race so I guess I could have gone faster. Team tactics team tactics!

PS oh yeah and Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor in the Oscars. Now I'm a huge Batman fan and his sudden death after filming The Dark Knight really disturbed me. However his performance in the movie was so....different, and original. As one reviewer put it, he made the previous Joker actor Jack Nicholson look lame in comparison. So..kudos to him! and his memory. and haha dun care for Slumdog heard it swept 8 Oscars though. I havent watched it :):) heh.

ok i shall blog.

sch has been great yet not so great. the not so great part mostly involved me sleeping in lectures. After suanning from various parties and the contemptuous stares from some members of the opposite sex (mostly telling me something along the lines of u keep sleeping in every class how u get such a gpa??), I shall resolve not to sleep in any lectures next week. U HEARD ME. that was until a certain kind member of my class reminded me that I have OCBC race this sun. then I have OMM rehearsal from 3-6. AIYAH CRAP confirm no hope one. BUT BUT class only starts at 920 so got hope! and my monday is super slack!!! and got pe...........so yeah. i shall endeavor.

My dad just went to colleccct the OCBC race jersey...heh its actually pretty good looking! I was worried that it would look like the ones the publicity guys wore in the newspaper articles...(which were quite crappy) but luckily its not. but but but some ***** went to tick S for me....so i look like super skinny in the jersey. haha so whateva pictures i take on that day, i'll take from the FRONT and back, not from the side...........

and a very good friend just told me im too dao to certain ppl in my class. hmm well i'll certainly try to talk to more ppl....guess my mindset was just screwed up. i guess i thought that i'll just slowly merge into the class or smthing, guess i'll just have to speed up the process.

I really have nothing to add for today. and im still 80% depressed. Maybe the skies will clear up tmr.

Ok i shall update.

Now's already Week 7 of Term 1, amazing how ppl like my sis and some poor ri/rgs ppl are dying over assignments while we're merely scratching the surface of our academic work. But heh we're doing permutations and combis for math, and from my experience taking the module in DMP in sec 3, I'm not very good at it even though i managed to get 16/20 for the test then. but that was with the help of the great and omnipotent *bows down* Jeremy Sia who seems to have become nicer in the few times I've met him in RJ. the "girl-effect" at work? unlikely as we all know his sexual preference....jkjk i'll still consider him a friend. haha Jerms if ur reading this then tag. anw P&C is precisely the kind of math im bad at, like probability. My math mind just cant see the links? and vectors. but i only suck at vectors cause i slept during the whole of the lessons involving teaching vectors. And u usually dun do well in something ur clueless in. but i resolve to sleep less in class this year, and its not because of the possibility of getting a white slip. or the girls laughing at u. haha who am i kidding.

Haha RJ...where to start? Orientation. My OG was HH03, "Oh Hot Damn", name of a song I totally didnt know as I only mainly listen to classical music. cant expect them to call the OG "Brahms Symphony No. 1" or something rite? Anw scrolled thru the lists every OG name starts with O something, there was one "O'nowweverunoutofOGnames" =..= and "O'bi Wan Kenobi". haha. full marks for creativity. haha my OG was quite cool though kinda cliquish but i can say that ive talked to around 90% of the people. talked=convo more than 10 min. and haha made friends with most of the ppl. ive realised im good at making one-on-one friends, hmm, ive had like one close friend for at least half a year. something to do with my personality? i dunno. but i know it rocks.

haha and my class! PCME high gpa class lol. O level 2 pointers. haha its good keep up the mugging spirit! 10s06L yeah. and Im CIP rep yeah! im sure we will as a class clock up loads of CIP hours thanks to my renowned skills of responsibility and accountability yeah! And i will train chin ups and stage the most impossible comeback ever. yeah.

oh ya and DAMN I SOMEHOW FELL SICK ON WED. Just slightly more than a week BEFORE OCBC RACE THIS SUN.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was damn worried cause of my notorious slow recovery but things seem better now. TAKING ANTIBIOTICS WHICH SUPPRESS UR PERFORMANCE. but haha just realised bikes with aerobars are not allowed. so i have to take mine off. neither are time trial-triathlon bikes heh. so it'll be my Litespeed against the Pinarello Princes and Trek Madones and Cervelo Soloists with Zipp, Hed, Mavic Cosmic, Corima and god knows what deep dish carbon wheels. Luckily im sticking with annwei a teammate yeah. hes fast and is damn good at finding a line to dodge ppl so i shld be fine. Hopefully i dun crash cause crashing sucks. Showering is a pain up till around a week after a crash..........

haha anyway wish me luck! 40km starting from the F1 pit building, just saw the race route. hopefully theres some inclines then can drop the riders not watching their weight :) but they will come roaring back on the descent anw..........haha shld be fun, hopefully i dun crash cause once again, crashing sucks.

on a random note, the chamber ppl are quite nice. I dunno abt chamber, hopefully no one impt is reading this, but i way prefered rise under sze. maybe cause there was more excitement, more scoldings (unfair) or whatever, but thus far RISE is just a ball of energy that chamber hasnt quite managed to live up to yet. And the ppl........some of the girls are nice, one is a horribly slow phone texter, two suan like lemons, and one said chamber guys are uncool. which is not true, im around. but syf's round the corner, i dun really like the Nielsen slow piece. IT sounds so...generic. Like film music, its just mood music but doesnt really have any meaning. Good slow movements are inspired, original and have some sort of counterpoint. Like Elgar Serenade's second movement, or Tchaikovsky Serenade's Elegie (trying to find examples similar to the Nielsen). And haha since im damn free anw, decided to do a list of IMHO best recordings of favourite pieces in the vln repertoire. but im typing-tired so maybe will post next time.

Wow i really havent blogged for a long time....realised my two last posts were from January and December (i think) 2008 respectively....so what have I been doing in that lengthy period of time? Well, since Im from RI (JC) now, my answers would be restricted to mugging and more mugging. which is kinda close to the truth anyway.

Heh started JC life liao (sort of). Just had a 5 hour sex ed crash course! Probably much needed since offhand i can name a few uncouth, unrefined people off the back of my hand (poor word choice here)... heh my verbal skills need some brushing up too, since sometime they border on the....colourful (and somewhat abstract). So...WTF should become WT(Fish) and F.off should become S.off. or maybe just go away. but if the person you intended to scream that at was so agreeable and understanding in the first place, you probably wouldn't have used that particular word on him. so S.off works much better here.

Heh and words like "crimson seduction", "cult worship", and (???) "the only triple protection" (???) came up while the trainers? were getting us to describe ourselves. As in we cut them from women's weekly and pasted them up on a board. For some highly unknown reason, our board was the most simultaneously R-rated and G-rated of all. Cause there was highly questionable stuff and also very very childish stuff there too. Actually everything was kinda fine till b.choong, gwr and I started cutting.....and tts why you should never place magazines intended for the fairer sex into hands of such people (looks around accusingly)///// The "showcase" turned out quite funnily too......while the female!!! trainer was showing us the boards and describing the PC (but bland) words there (and corny too) lovingly, she spent like 3 + 3 + 3 + 0.2 minutes on the 4 boards. and yep the last board was ours.

still deciding on whether to take music.....zzz there are convincing arguments for both sides but haiz. dilemmas were never meant to be easy to solve.....if not kj would be a smarter person now..... jkjkjkjkjk

and zzz should i play for the OMM concert in march? looks like got a lot of rehearsals and some of them would cut into my already increasingly tenacious mood during the SYF period....and must see if got enough *friends* going first. If not I would be stuck with a bunch of highly virtuosic people. oh yar let me describe OMM to you. It is Singapore's newly formed symphonic orchestra and I joined it as a double bass mentor and tutor. oh wait i mean violinist. sort of mixed the two up. Anw playing Scheherazade in the first violin section omg i was seriously outclassed (and outplayed) by the people there, which included several singapore violin playing legends and the almighty theophilus kwek, who is the only person i can say whose playing is not significantly better than mine. (BTW theo i found ur cd after randomly opening up another cd case to transfer that cd back to another cd case). Haha maybe i was out of practice liao...guess have to brush up now! But overall it was an enjoyable experience and I am starting to like Scheherazade. Its the story of this maniacnical (however u spell it) king who kills women after he seduces them in bed. Cause he doesnt really like women. but Scheherazade tells him a story every time when he is erm..finished so he doesnt kill her. For 1001 nights. Kinda reminds me of Vivaldi, being accused of composing the same concerto 600 times.....but anw, in the end he falls in love with the girl and doesn't kill her! yay! world peace! (sort of). The violin solos in there are really awesome...glad ol' Rimsky-Korsakov liked the violin eh. I mean, it could have been the viola playing the solo lines there... .... ... ... ...

and finally haha OCBC cycling event coming up soon. I have no idea whether you can sign up but its darn awesome they're closing quite a fair amount of roads for this mass inaugural cycling-promoting event. So join now in the family category which is 20km i think or the 40km road race which i will be chionging in with some extremely fast teammates. Of if you are a cycling professional with an inexplicable reason for not training with your European based team in February 2009 or are in Singapore to buy early-bird tickets for the next March OMM concert, you can take part in the invite-only 50km race. or the criterium. and nope I do not work for OCBC, neither is this blog meant to solicitize (or whatever) this race. I just think cycling rocks.

Maybe we should build a velodrome (indoor cycling stadium). With the youth olympics coming and all that, wont they have track cycling???? c'mon! theres nothing close to watching four riders hunched in aerodynamic position (nope u wont see their agonised faces its too fast) zooming past the track for 4km trying to break the 4 minute barrier. Except perhaps F1 racing, the speeds are kinda faster.

and join RAFFLES RIDERS on facebook now! Cycling SIG hopefully coming into effect soon....(after someone gets the SIG form for us....). However please do only join if you are a Rafflesian. The admins just had to delete some Hong Kongese guy and China guy from the list...i mean its ok to be dedicated to cycling, but not till the point where you want to migrate here and join RI (JC) just to be a member of our super awesome cool FTW imba cycling club. and btw, in america imba stands for the International Mountain Biking Association. Heh. Heh.

PS LANCE ARMSTRONG IS RETURNING TO COMPETITIVE CYCLING!!! his first race is the tour down under in adelaide australia next week, so be sure to tune in to some random sports channel if u live in the US or Europe! If u live in singapore, forget it! check cyclingnews.com for updates on his performances! and heh hope he wins the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France this year, completing an impossible 'double' last legitimately achieved by Spanish great Miguel Indurain in 1993. Interestingly Indurain almost attained the 'Triple Crown' of cycling by winning the tour, giro and worlds in 1993....but someone new and brash defeated him in the worlds in 1993...guess who it was. It was armstrong! anw haha his return gives cycling a much needed boost now after three controversial tour de frances....armstrong FTW!!! Heh if i can buy a LiveStrong jersey i would. random.

Just a random post that no one will notice.

1. My record high GPA for Sec 4 is probably gone.
2. My Chinese is in dire straits now.
3. I need to seriously start preparing for MEP High scorers' concert.
4. I am way more comfortable on my mountain bike than on my time-trial setup.
5. I cannot maintain a perfectly flat back while time trialling.
6. I cannot maintain 40+km/h for a long time without going into fatigue-induced convulsions (imaginary perhaps)
7. YC's biceps are bigger than mine (not like theres much anw)
8. I wrote a seriously out-of-point, contrary-to-popular-belief line for my SS essay
9. Lance Armstrong is seriously IMBA (hes returning to pro cycling btw)(9b. Lance Armstrong can maintain 53.986km/h for 1h5min6sec)
10. I enjoy cycling with friends more than I do alone.

There you go. 10 'events' that happened in my life recently. And I havent signed into MSN for at least three weeks.

Wow realised i have abandoned this blog for some time! anw heres a quick update.

Wed was staff training. As usual, I went out. and as usual, I felt I needed a shirt stating in bold letters "I AM NOT PONNING SCHOOL". Went to ecp with 2 zys to teach one cycling and to teach the other how to cycle better. Yay im happy to say zhiyi managed to master the fundamentals of cycling, but in the process crashing into so much greenery of ECP that i was shouting "PAP! PAP!!". in this case PAP is "Plants are Precious", he was crashing into them like some member of the opposition party. lol.

got my new ray-ban sunglasses! looks cool but its bent at the edges meaning i see the ground a lot closer than it is!!! it made for a diff in my speed (slower). but with it when i bent down i managed to reach a jawdropping 40km/h on flat ground. but i felt i needed more effort to go at slower speeds. psychological? how i'll get used to it soon.

and GRRR i punctured my tyre and tube riding home from ECP, as i was cruising down a kerb. ZZZ the tyre's ex hope he won't be too pissed off. In the end the ECP guys helped my changed a tube and i chiong-cycled back home via the roads as they said if my "burst" tyre came into contact with sand i was doomed to wheel the bike home.

K back to mugging bio! and phy.......thank heavens tmr is not philo presentation?!!! cause im not prepared anw.

yay 2008! a new year of school (and tests) and of rise! (n vln-playing).

haha ive been busy cycling this nov-dec hols. didnt rain much (surprisingly!). fervently checking nea (national environmental agency...yes it exists) for weather reports, which were accurate 50% of the time. hmm still rmb sec 2 geog all the wind sock compass and dunno maybe even windmill.

and fell down quite a number of times. well i was going at around 30 and crashed into kids who were stationary in the middle of the road...twice. oh the kids were different. but i got away with a 1 inch by 1 inch cut both times.

but unfortunately while trying out cycling shoes, shoes which clickonto the pedals to give u more incentive to continue paddling as u cant take ur foot off unless u twist it sideways. on that fateful day, i fell down....4 times. it was stupid (and unprofessional) lor. imagine someone stopping, then falling down sideways as cant remove feet from pedals after stopping. anw sprained my right wrist, took a trip down to changi hospital (the ppl there look damn solemn) and got a cast. yay.

and joined a cycling team!! <3 <3 (love sign). yay hope can take part in competitions and get a team jersey, which would spell "hi" in the front and "bye" at the back.

gil shaham's playing of carmen fantasy on youtube is so inspirational! i must ask professionals, in the 4th movt do u fake the double stops going up and down as urgh how to remember which notes have sharps and which dont! anw shaham's my absolute fav recording of carmen fantasy. (still rmb the horrendous mutter and ricci ones). perlman is too slow. heifetz is....playing of an old style which surely deserves mention but i wouldnt count his 1924 rec as my absolute fav.

I'm listening to Bruch's much neglected Violin Concerto No. 2 now and thinking.....what am i gonna eat later. pork or chop? well no. actually i was thinking of how the heck i am going to finish reading two parts of a chinese classic and finish two chinese magazine reviews. i cant even understand the first bloody chapter. and then my mum saved me.....not. by getting this DVD of the 'dream of the red chamber' to watch. omg the horror. after hollywood watching chinese dramas is...painful. no im not talking about the elaborate dresses and un understandable words. its just...indecipherable.

guess i'll have to survive reading word by word, painfully dissecting the meaning (esp. those between the lines).

watched three movies with a good friend last week. (not sia). in order, Lions for lambs, Beowulf, and Enchanted. Ok those were in order of enrapture-ness. OK Lions for Lambs was totally goofy. It went nowhere. I was stoning at the screen and asking myself, where's the NC16 part??? I've seen more ****s and violence in a PG film lor. and then i thought omg how did they manage to get cruise to star in this god-awful movie. bottom line, if ur thinking of watching it, go. The philosophical meanings and political rhetoric would undoubtedly thrill u to no end. that's if u dun finish throwing ur popcorn at the screen first.

Beowulf was average, (NC16 again, dun ask me how i got in). Enchanted was super super enchanting. as in good. Comedy + parody and a really good actress made the film super memorable. And IT WAS PG. damn the NC16s are getting worse and worse. haha and patrick dempsey looks lilke Pinchas Zukerman. So in other words, Enchanted owns Lions for Lambs.

Sigh the november season setting in again...aka. RAIN. couldnt cycle for so many days. finally went today aka thursday to east coast. whee easily hit 40 in this new err...outfit. zhiyi or sia, come with me one day! i'll work the fats off for you :) :)

Combined concert this SUN!!!!!! i love the combined pieces, haha our choir's really angelic and pro. VCH 2pm. i've already done my part by selling 6 tickets....so dun ask me for more. or u can just turn up and use this old trick on the usher. (TRIED AND TESTED)

the chamber concert mesmeRISE was just over last night, and...mixed feelings. definitely strong emotions coarsing through me right now, firstly regarding the standard of performance.

1. Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia

The virtuosy-showy piece. Well, it definitely wasnt the best run by far, but i thought it was pretty good, especially the double-stopped finale. Luckily i wrote into the programme notes "fiery, stunning conclusion". heard a lot of shouts from the audience after this piece, must have been awed by the stunning finale lol. Intonation was pretty good k, considering the thirds and sixths are damn hard to get in tune. Well, i only had a month lol. but we managed to pull it together YAY.

2. Mendelssohn Octet

This piece is super hard to play. And get in tune and together. well, I have to apologise for picking such a tough piece to do, but after all i thought, heck everyone's doing quartets, y not a double quartet? (4 + 4 = octet) to make it special. ok the scherzo was good, but the presto/...i guess some of us got nervous. there was one second of silence (LOL WHY??) but thankfully we didnt break down or anything. overall it went well and it got good comments! and zhiyi's tchr gave me good comments lol. so yay im so proud of the mendelssohn octet ppl. we managed to play this extremely hard piece and add tone colour and shading and all those too (albeit most were incidental). NExt time lets play the whole thing!!

and hahax finally got a psp. slim& lite version. got 3 games so far, GTA: vice city stories, SW: Renegade Squad and fifa 08. trying out all now, yay finally some post exam pleasure. (for the mind). and i think im finally beginning to develop some interest in piano music, started with the beethoven piano concertos, now moving on to his sonatas. really really great music. still prefer the magic of horowitz =) maybe cause horowitz was a technician like heifetz. Similarities! =)

and i seriously need to play those kreutzer and rode etudes instead of sarasate's introduction and tarantella.....btw that piece ROCKS. go youtube watch the itzhak perlman performance, best ever. love his ricochet technique....STILL TRYING TO LEARN STACCATO.

1. English

it was fine except i forgot to leave 4 lines???? anw i bet alot of ppl did that. exam stress.

2. Social Studies

Haha kinda read a whole lot of relevant contextual knowledge from MINDEF website (shows that gov websites CAN be useful) so i think i should have done quite well. Spammed a lot of points

3. Chinese

I THINK i did well...i really did! it wasnt that hard AND I COULDNT remember ONE of the words arghhhhh! (as usual) but i have a suspicious feeling i did well. Well, I've always had this feeling and it usually returns average results back. so,...

4. chemistry

This paper was easy. Really. Had a whole lot of chemistry with the paper.

i had no mood to do this freaking paper. couldnt even finish mugging all the topics and crap the teacher totally gave wrong hints. I know u shoudnt rely on hints as the teacher might offhand totally forget the contents of the paper and give absurdly wrong tips but HEY its an unmuggable-finish topic (this concludes another brilliant, gramatically-correct sentence penned by cbw). Didnt want to remember the facts, and despite what the pros said, it was a hard paper. (the contents were hard, the paper was soft).

8. Literature

well, i either score very high or very low for lit, (CCT 2: 16/25, CCT 3: 25/25). Hope its the better end of the imba this time!

predicted score: As unpredictable as the weather. Really. Try predicting the weather.

9. Music elective programme

Holy...MEP rocks,. nothing to mug. Well, i mugged......nothing. Happy to say, i think i did well. geminiani (a composer) screwed up my prac and my 4.0 (more like germ-iniani) thus i hope i can get above 70% as according to inside info (which again SHOULDNT be trusted as the teacher might be under the influence of alcohol while marking/recording results) a lot of people screwed up. Big time...like...failing. Argh hope im not among the umm....people-who-can-do-better-next-time (to be politically correct). AKA failures. please.

predicted score: Cant predict as usually composers die after their ninth symphony...or ninth paper. (dvorak, schubert, mahler, beethoven, some other random guys, cbw, and bruckner). Well, as bruckner didnt even complete his ninth, lets assume he died halfway here and thus nothing can be predicted (except for his death).

well, cbw dying was metaphorical. so i survived the eoy period...by letting my com go stagnant for two weeks. Now its being sent for repair...cant turn on >< using laptop now.

And the MENdelssohn octet. cmon guys its possible to get it together and make it actually sound good. Mendelssohn wrote this for US (well he wrote it at 16, thus lets assume its for teenagers), so lets make it sound good.

and the handel-halvorsen passacaglia....well hope i get lucky twice during the concert day. Pouring lots of effort (and rosin) into this. its tougher than i thought.

first eoy paper went well, rather papers, there were two of them. english and ss (which is social studies)

somehow i failed to read the instructions where it said leave four lines after every response, so i left one =x nvm ri english tchrs are known for their leniency, so i hope nth serious would happen

Went to the quite famously-touted return of min lee to singapore concert. where she played the mendelssohn v concerto. at first, i looked at the programme. wow, mendy vln concerto, haydn cello concerto, vivaldi concerto for 4 vlns, mozart pno concerto (eeks) and beethoven sym 8! not bad eh...

then at the esplanade, i grabbed the brochure of this concert and found out the title was "first movements". hmm....then i realised they were only playing the first movement of everything/

butbutbut! i found out in the programme notes (which we had to donate $3 for) that they were playing the whole beethoven symphony no 7! my *former* favourite symphony lol. btw it was the prague sym orch on tour and they were nothing short of amazing. definitely the best beethoven 7 i have heard live (sorry YO). and min lee's playing...well we timed it it was 12:57. heifetz took 11:00, perlman 12:57 with his barenboim one. so hmm it was the romantic approach. well i still prefer heifetz, but admit her tone was gorgeous and her vibrato lucious. (????) that was cause she had a guarnerius. (i think).

and yay got her autograph lol but she used some low quality marker which smudged, so yay i got two-for-one, more precisely her signature on two sides of the programme notes. hmm one side is inverted leh...dunno why. the conductor too but luckily only his first name smudged. lol. shame on s'pore pen-providers for autographs! and saw peixin and her friend dyllis there too. queuing up for autographs too. wonder if theirs is smudged too

dmp rocks! i just realised (yeah just) that i have max two periods every day yay! BUTBUT rehearsal on first week cuts into the joy of having only first period for mon (not that rhsl isnt good, but damn! could have went home at 920 to stone). but other days shld be better bah. haha im beginning to see the good side of dmp.

Currently obsessed with Sarasate's Zapateado....such a fun piece to play! haha i like it more than his intro and tarantelle and his other works (CURRENTLY). but haha i think its superly melodically appealing and haha fun =)

Ehhh back to mugging! 3 tests in Week 8 and oh man they require mugging except lit.

RI adopts the technique of slow torture. Whereas other schs all concentrate their tests on one week or so, (fast torture), I recall having 2 CCts on week 5, one on week 6 and a quiz on week7 and now 3 tests on week 8. NOT TO MENTION that stupid in-class performance tasks which there was one on week 6 and 7. PTs have lost its meaning....supposed to do slowly at home! now maths, chem, phy became in-class assignments...wad crap.

I suppose I could just not care or simply, dao the tests. But heh I have a conscience. Which might not be a bad thing.

Trying to fit biology into my head now. OMG Y PLANTS. i hate studying plants its like omg so complicated and omg so retarded. now i realise how simplified p sch texts were :)

ehhh suggestions on nice film scores? I have starwars, lotr, hp and few others but cant think of anymore. suggestions welcome.

haha went back to rss to play my own arranged piece for two vln two vla weird combo eh! well i think it was highly successful (all ego aside) and that (i hope) around 60% of ppl were actually paying attention to us.

thus yay playing again for tchr's day there. coming up with a new piece for the same weird combo + piano (it helps) and voice. and probably dance. hope i'll make it on time as i discovered there were 3 ccts on week 8!?!?!? zomg. and so many other projs/quizzes. aiyah very stressed now.

as usual want to upload pics but blogger denies me. well, i'll try on the new laptop someday as im gonna reformat this com. yeah and hopefully install vista into it.

one month of events

im sorry for letting this blog sorta die. its dying like a disaccharide...shant let it happen.

ok how am i going to relate one month's events. well, after ny, there was this two week cCA break where i ravished going home at the actual times intended for me, basically on mon and fris, ESP FRI where i can go home at 1245....yay! but no more liao. well, it was fun while it lasted.

then got rgs strings concert. highly entertaining, esp the ghost part. nvr heard music sounding so freakish b4, credit must go to the orchestra for not laughing their heads off at the apperance and subsequent antics of the "ghost". well, actually two. and surprisingly, and much to sia's chagrin, there were CO instruments too, well at least no liuqin! lol. and teaching ppl how to play vln is a very novel idea. ri shld use it too but imagine ppl like bryan choong even touching a vln. okok scrap it.

been even more in love with vln these few weeks. thanks to zhaohan for providing me with so much vids and scores to be amazed at. now sorta interested in waxman's carmen fantasy. surprisingly, i can play some parts of it but not the sarasate one considering the sarasate one is much easier (kogan's words), and also sinding suite! wanna play the latter for mep prac if i can manage on time. all spiccs no wonder its a heifetz speciality. but well isnt anything technical his?

week 5 have maths, chinese , chem prac. considering hp 7 is THIS SAT TWO DAYS AWAY wad a pity. im still gonna read HP though and dao the tests. except chinese need some serious mugging. yeah serious as in sirius black. gonna go at 7am and yes ive been waiting for this for a time as long as only longan can measure. hope harry lives! but if he dies, i wun be shedding any tears anw.

btw vista is fine, only u need to get a super big RAM for it to not lag :)

abt the new york trip....well it was highly successful and very fun in all aspects. The highlight of it, the Carnegie performance, was nothing short of stellar. I think we were really inspired by the grand visage of audience, large hall and perhaps somewhat intimidated, but we came up with highly inspired performances that were easily our best ever, well, for most of the pieces. Surprisingly, the Parry Andante and Frolic were omitted, which I think, thankfully so as in the IBM performance the Andante came out disjointed and underpowered while the Frolic was still a mess esp in the 1st vln section. so yay....bet we left a great impression on the New York audience.

personally...well yay! NY is such a big city..surprisingly quiet even in day! one of the highlights (though some FIRMLY dispute) watching one of the "big five" New York Philharmonic performing Mahler's Symphony No. 7. felt it was rather a pity as Sym 7 is, scarcely to say the least popular and most misunderstood of Mahler's symphonies, even I cant make head of tail of it...yet. Thus we have ppl like Lumps going around now saying Mahler sucks. Perhaps it would have been better if they played one of his more accessible works like maybe his sym 1,4 or 5, but well 7 is rather popular among big name conductors nowadays. anw it was great playing from a world class orch. and the concertmaster is pro! :) duh. and maazel in presence is hehe...wide. his technique was nothing spectacular though to us...not a stick technician like reiner or abbado, but good enough to bring mahler across (mahler symps are the ultimate in hard to conduct!). and i still love mahler symphonies :)

yay and went CD shopping there =.='' expected rite. got 3 CDs one DVD...a vintage one of Heifetz performing, cant find back in S'pore. Though most of it is on youtube, owning his devilish performances of Paganini #24, and Wieniawski S.T. really inspires. particularly watching his Hora staccato....AHHHH how can one have such perfect downbow and upbow staccato...crazy. watching vids and listening to recs are two diff things.

anw rise is prob a whole lot more bonded now....2 week break till CO workshop in week 3! man Jem is all pumped up now receiving that news...wait till i go learn liuqin then own u heheh >< ><

and lol ri has like staff training for this thurs and fri....so no sch for us, thus when we went out to borders-orchard area we got STARES. "Eeeee that guy PON sch" and "eeee sigh must be one of those hopeless students..." stares. lol renyan (some CO future chairman guy) says "I wanna get a shirt saying "I am not skipping school!" " lol. the disadvantages of these uncommon holidays. but nvm went home with FOUR new CDs. man running out of money liao...speaking of which HMV cut down their full Cd price from 28.50 to 26....at least for the classical section. Guess must be cause of the poor/dipping sales. anw all i see in the classical section are foreign old men (eeks really reinforces the misconception of classical music being only for old men). and even my frequency of visits are dipping....sighz.

back to hw which is thankfully offset by this five week hol. class outing on sat (5 ppl one, frm 2H) and other minor stuff which will chew my hw time away, so better start now! oh and RE coming to competition deadline liao! so its much more work to put in now.

Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

haha in a similarly annoyed-bored mood typing chinese, which most of us term sian. last time did a mini-comparison of zigeunerweisens, now shall do another on this marvellous piece im listening to now, Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

My faraway favourite, which i suspect will hold for a long time, is that by Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Phil. having both the Cd and DVD version, i read reviews that sym. 7 was abbado's fav out of the 9, and its no wonder given the lightness and playfulness of his rendition. He uses the new Jonathan Del Mar Critical Edition, which calls for an exposition repeat, something which only modern conductors do! abbado does it, and i think his first mvmt's one of the best. His second is quite straightforward like the others, and runs through a pretty fast Presto mvmt (not as fast as Rattle and Kleiber though!). but ah finaLLY his Allegro con brio is the absolute FASTEST i have ever heard. From the first few bars can really sense that forward drive and crazy tempo he drives his world's best orchestra to. no one else does it that fast..not even karajan, who believed that this mvmt shld be conducted faster than what he orginally thought. wow.

The only possible drawback to this recording is that the recorded sound is a bit distant, even for a studio rec. But no complains here, given the interpretation!

Initially believing Karajan to be this piece's greatest exponent (loved his beethoven cycles), i have all 3 of his, from 1962, 1977 and 1982. All maintain the usual high standard of playing, though the later ones get more refined, as Karajan's insistence for beauty of string tone grew more and more dominant. Though if I had to pick I would take the 1982 one, for the beauty of string tone (esp in the 2nd mvmt Allegretto...wow!) and digital sound. However, I think he falls short of Abbado, esp in the lightness department, some parts of his rendition sound too heavy. Though I have always liked his First movement. He does a slow Presto, placing it among my least favs, as i HATE slow reads of this piece. it shld be FAST.

Listening to Carlos Kleiber (the legendary one). nope, not the famous one with the vienna phil, but a live one with some radio orch. Surprisingly, I prefer the radio orch one. Also acquired a vid of Kleiber reading thru beethoven symphonies 4 and 7 with the concertgebouw amsterdam, which needless to say was truly electrifying. really had me on the edge of my seat, unlike the karajan one (that egotist! the camera was on him 90% of the time, hey a symphony is more abt the orch u know). and karajan closes his eyes while conducting so erm....the stage presence is nothing compared to kleiber, who dances on the podium and umm...scratches his head at the most random moments. but anw i find the vienna one good, but after the live one, u will simply prefer the live one over his studio one. Kleiber maintained his tempos thru the two takes, but the winds in that random radio orch shine thru in the live rec, esp the oboe lol, the player's vibrato damn good! lolx/ and his presto is one of those fast ones, and hes the only conductor who makes full use of the wind solos in here! others like karajan simply let the strings dominate in the presto sections. thus kleiber's live rec gets a SECOND from me.

then theres RATTLE and his vienna phil. hes supposed to be competing with abbado, berlin phil vs. vienna phil, DG vs. EMI, but the recorded sound here is even worse than abbado's! what were the engineers thinking? boxy shrill sounds fluctuate here. and theres really nothing special about his rendition, with weird tempo fluctuations in the first movement, (eeks really spoils that viennese oboe sound!) but commendable for his fine fast presto effort. not worth considering really with karajan and abbado around.

Also nothing special about Fritz Reiner- Chicago Sym recording either! when i bought it i thought it would be spectacular, given Reiner's superb tempo control and tight conducting, but there were some rits. in the first mvmt (yeah....WHAT!?!?) and really nothing notable with the rest with moderate tempi taken. His sym 6's not that good either, but i admire his Eroica and Fate, esp his Op. 67 the last movement taken the absolute fastest ever! thought i find Reiner recordings wear off over a period of time, used to really like his Dvorak 9 and Mahler 4, but now i find them too emotionally detached to endure repeated listenings. Thus my fav for both respectively now would be karajan/berlin or kubelik/berlin for the dvorak 9 and kubelik/bavarian or bernstein/new york phil for the mahler 4.

and the prize for the most boring, draggy, IRRITATING recording goes to...

OTTO KLEMPERER and the Philharmonia Orch.

EEKS if i could define the three adjectives above this would be it. really really horrible draggy. perhaps he conceived this symphony as a monumental one, but i certainly do not share his view of this piece. eeks again.

also BERNSTEIN and new york phil..

their first mvmt is pretty standard, thought bernstein takes the intro section a little slow, but his fourth movement and presto DRAGS. ewwww. no further comment necessary.

the Furtwangler/Berlin phil didnt live up to my high expectations either. i rmb slow tempi to be a culprit. Pity given this old german master was supposed to be one of the greatest beethoven exponents ever.

trying to round out my collection with those of Solti, Toscanini and perhaps Szell. Though I already have preconceived notions about what their renditions are gonna be like. but well...i might be surprised again, as I truly was with the abbado one.

ok back to reality....new york trip this Sat 7.30pm! virtually impossible to complete my homework............manmanmanman manmanhattan. lol. ok to add on to my list of 'similes'

Zigeunerweisen!

new york trip in like 5 days. as u probably expected, im screwed for the homework part. nvm i'll find a way to finish it. after all when theres a will theres a way.

random but im listening to all my zigeunerweisen fast mvmts now. was obsessed with the fast mvmt since i heard heifetz's and began collecting almost all the recs of it, paying special attention to the final fast mvmt, a little while after i learnt the proper spelling of the spanish piece's name ( i think). haha lets review them. and i dedicate this section below to JEM, who plays the piece on his CO instrument :)

first with HEIFETZ

his two recordings are legendary, i believe his mastery of sautille shines through here, the notes are all clean and clear (not the shampoo) and hes one of the only who sautillates their way thru the sul G section amid the left hand pizzis. the only drawback for him would be that he misses quite some harmonics, and you know when you miss harmonics that eww..splich! sound sounds. however overall heifetz is unbeatable. check out the ending of the first part, the G major arpeggios...certainly no one dares to zoom thru it as fast and devilish as heifetz! and his impeccable use of portamenti, esp in the second movement, marks his recording as deservedly the best available today.

secondly his contemporary MILSTEIN

i've always believed heifetz's technique more electrifying than milstein, though i prefer milstein's silvery tone at times, in zigeunerweisen a weeping, sobbing (heifetz!) tone is preferable to a slick silvery one to being out the anguish of gypsy life (at least anguish of the music). and milstein's intonation differs from heifetz with the fact that his semitone gaps are not as well defined as heifetz's. very tella-ble esp in the high registers. But anw to the main focus: the fast mvmt.

Milstein's playing is more clean than heifetz's, and he nails all the harmonics dead on. however, i dun think his spics or sauts have that crisp bite that heifetz has, giving me just that proverbial thrill and out-of-my-seat feeling. maybe i prefer a go-for-all take instead of a more reserved careful one, but here i prefer heifetz over milstein.

next for contemporary players

SHAHAM

his intonation not as dead on as the others right from the beginning. his tone is silvery! though a bit thin, reminds me of milstein but listening to shaham's wieniawski cd, his technique and intonation's so accurate and dead on that i deduced either 1. he did 1000 takes 2. hes damn talented 3. he happened to have a lot of luck on his side on the recording day
i believed the 2nd reason to be more accurate :) however shaham's tone! just no match for heifetz in the context of this piece. and his spics sometime sound a bit to non-crisp, almost as if merely detache-ing (though not possible at that fast speed)! and his harmonics are all dead on, but i find them too reserved. thus his rec gets the back seat (for now).

next

MUTTER

believe me, im no fan of her. i find her overly wide vibrato destroys the piece esp the great romantic concerto recs she made with karajan which i possess....she seems to have gotten worse after the death of her mentor karajan...not just the vibs but her intonation. having her CD "carmen-fantasie" listening to the 4th mvmt, the sick double stopping parts, im surprised she let that quality of intonation and scrappy tone get onto CD. btw shaham did one live with the berlin phil i think, its on youtube, and his intonation is darn GOOD for a live rec. btw i love the way shaham handles the second mvmt of carmen, but off topic :)

SURPRISINGLY i like mutter's FAST movement. the slow ones are over vibrated (cant count the no. of times i shivered), i expected the usual poor intonation to carry thru the fast mvmt but it was good :) esp her spics crisp and clear, and she plays with daring-ness (eee shaham, shes a girl leh u boy) and overall i place her rec a second.

next : BELL

dun like it. tone too weak, though his intonation and everything are fine. maybe cos of the age of the rec or the mic was placed too far from him, but i dun have a strong impression of his rec unlike the others, thus dun recommend it.

to me the others are just back seating to the only true great one, heifetz. end of discussion.

better get back to chinese now :)

mep camp was umm....more boring than chem! ok maybe that was overstated for the sake of the pun, it was actually quite enriching , entertaining and en...umm....envigorating (invigorating). yay got 6 diff groups im in grp 4 :) rather, i was in grp 4 as its now disbanded...but haha.

shant talk much about the camp here, but well the ri ppl came (or restated) a few jokes or similes. which include

ok syf's over... and rise got honours again! yay! though like 5 schs got honours so =.= its like 1/3 of the total schs participating and i felt that maybe the standard shld have been a little higher.

but oh well. its over! and we retained! with quite a splendid performance i must say. haha so now its new york time.

after syf went to the singapore stock exchange seminar for our stockwhiz briefing. Well, that turned out to be umm....quoting zhiyi " a total boring lecture". which was quite true as well, the speaker didnt know how to catch the audience's attention and well,,,even the teachers left halfway. haha looking around i saw lots of people umm...reflecting on the seminar with their heads bowed, but i didnnt slp (for once) as i was crapping with jeremy sia.

tts about it, with chi proj not done, and with a lit cct this mon, its sure to be a busy weekend.

beethoven pastoral symphony btw is so nice (sorry random but im listening now). supposed to depict countryside people. so romantic too haha.. i like the combination.

and my beethoven symphony appreciation has me understanding 1,3,5,6,7,8,9...with 2 and 4 leaving me puzzled haha. ????? 6 and 7 my absolute favs now!

Lots of stuff happened recently, and mainly were CCTS. bloody hell mugged like siao but some papers still insisted on being damn hard (like CHINESE WTH(eck) insisted on a undo-able passage cloze and maths being the usual hard demoralizer. Sigh. hope can do well though :D (for chinese my imba guessing powers applied to the 4 options and for maths pure dumb luck :p)

haha k enough with CCTs. today's 15th day of CNY i think. went to malaysia as usual in the first two-three days as usual. Stoned, talked, shopped, played, listened, everything took place in my father's family of around 20+ people! hahahaha. malaysia red packets arent that "red" though. as 1 RM is worth around 45 cents? hahaha. but as my father put it: ITS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS. (chinese version)

and been frequenting jaryl's hse recently to wrap up our stellar SS project. haha with this ongoing frequency i might need a mayfair pass too!?!? >) kidding. it was fun working there, experiencing painful setbacks, bright sparks of ideas and utmost depression. but we pulled through with a combination of lamelamelame jokes and umm. Game Boy Advance. hahaha. poke mon too.

ANDD I BOUGHT POKEMON RED RESCUE TEAM MYSTERY DUNGEON! hahaha. original ok. not bad the game but can get a bit boring. cant wait for diamond and pearl to be released hahahahaha. but must save up for DS :( which imho isnt the best handheld console game out there today. PSP owns it but sadly Sony is non compatible with pokemon sigh. guess we can't have a perfect world. if not, pokemon emerald would be on PS2!!! hahahaha :D

SYF in 6 weeks omg. hope we can get gold with honours im in charge of ensemble C will continue to push it to new heights work hard ok people! GOLD WITH HONOURS NOT COP PLEASE LOL.

finally blogging. haha. and switched to new blogger too! where u basically sign in with ur gmail account rather than the usual username and password. wow!

of course, there might be other benefits i haven't reaped yet. probably wont get to do so considering the frequency of me signing in to blogger.

next week killer week! four CCTs! english, maths, higher chinese (DIE) and bio! starting with hmt on mon. hope can scrape a 3.6 there as usual. and of course ace maths and do ok for the rest. and got SS project! tmr going jaryl house from 9am to dunnowadtime. better finish hor lol i dun wanna keep going over to jurong (1 hour travelling eh). but now that i got my zen aurvana earphones back from repair it shouldn't be too sian haha.\

and i now have a complete collection of death note comics. 1-12. might be rebuying pokemon adventures thanks to inspiration from alex. he actually went to buy book 23 today! haha. i lost interest in the ruby-sappphire story arc, finding it rather weak. but now new plot, new characters, sexier outfits (i like the green makeover). should be able to revive interest bah

and had a lit test today. shant elaborate as readers would be bored. it seemed easy, but the way the teachers mark it, it's a whole different story. still hoping for 4.0.

haha finally posting...cant let my blog become dead. oh whoops it already is =)

haha sch's been busy. tests and all that liao. i think i screwed up my physics test. cant afford to screw up chem and bio tests next week so must study...sian.

and class so far is.....interesting. haha. that reminds me of walk n talk, which is basically an english competition where you walk around scenery and blabber whatever you can about it. and yeah we did it =) on hdb flats. haha. though im not so sure exactly how we managed to pull it off...as most of my grp members were LAME...so dunno how we managed to WALK and talk. hmmmmmmmmm

and chinese class this week was the first ever interesting one! cai yinghua got the funny notion to screen 'i not stupid 2' during two chinese periods over the week! omg and i must add it was really emo. a great film, no doubt. i think cai was teary....but i think none of us had the decency to cry. oh well if u film it to a girls class need to get mops after screening. haha JUSTIN EMO =)

and new sec ones for string ensemble! so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeee! :) haha lots of violin pros liao. and viola pros (some guy who owns all the violas except wang xiang) and cello pros (grade 8 sec one cellos!). LOL. and YAY going for RJCE concert....see their rendition of suk serenade to see whether it triumphs ours :) haha. esp watching out for the 4th movement.

and sian my violin lessons moved to sunday 4pm. that means i cant go for physics tuition....ARGHHHHHHHHHH. physics can get quite hard esp light....and colours...wad additive subtractive colours and wad umbra penumbra....damn hard haha i think i might need help (=

and go listen to MENDELSSOHN SYMPHONY NO 4 ITALIAN. ultrasuperdamn nice....esp 1st movement. a perfect symphony haha. i still like Munch/BSO the best haha. even though bernstein is fiery too.

and mep haha. a 3 hours joke class where we crap around but actually manage to learn something. i recall the joke for last lesson was after someone said something funny, you say :"HAHAHAHA....whoops i forgot to laugh". hahaha poor ms shen........and people at the back play handphone and were busted too. im sitting at front offering constructive comments...anyway i hate my hp so i dun play it anymore. BEETHOVEN IS THE BEST. wad mozart, haydn, bach symphonies and concertos...so boring lol. and ROMANTIC IS THE BEST. hahahahaha. cbw the romantic =)

back from obs!

haha. it was fun, exciting, horrible, sian all at once. it was at pulau ubin btw. where obs owns 1/3 of the island. scary eh? i mean they have lots of place to torture us eh. well, that's only part of it.....

DAY ONE

the most sian day. we were the last boat to leave for obs...so....sian lor. crapped lame jokes and played lame stuff. then got on the boat and found out to our dismay that we were on a 5 day mobile course. ahhhhhh. that means we get the honours to pitch tents in the wilderness every night, while our fellow residential friends get to sleep on beds at night! how cool is that eh?
anyway, luckily, we got a good instructor. name's serene yar. but we can call her yaryarpapayar. no kidding. anw quite nice la. compared to the other niao instructors the other groups had. ok then did some team building activities then went to pitch tent at night.

and hey presto! it rained during the night! i woke up to find my tent flooded. and matt was literally swimming in it. woah. so wad to do. talk lor until 'rescue' arrived. sian slept in hall for the night. amazing i didn't catch a cold.

DAY TWO

tried kayaking. its some kind of 2 people boat. where you have to use some sort of paddles to row. you'll understand if i prefer motor boats eh. ok anyway there was this capsize drill! guess what fun that means! we had to purposely capsize our boats by flipping it around! so i got a nice cup of seawater lor. seawater is bloody salty. ok theres no blood in it. only salt. sian again as instructor briefed us while the rain poured on us. and it rained again during the night and we fled to the multi purpose hall. sian again.

DAY THREE

the day. sea expedition. had to navigate a course around the whole of pulau ubin. there's where i got sunburned. painpainpain. whole arms and legs. sigh. painful lor. anw it was ok la. keep keep keep rowing instructors keep pushing us on even threatening us to remove our paddles then we paddle with hands. erm lol? ok. LOL. then we got to this deserted island where we pitched tents

DAY FOUR

the ultimate. forest expedition! while we were carrying 10-20 kg backpacks. wow! thru the forest. and we had to carry damn heavy stuff too. luckily i survived. to get back to our mobile camp! where we did admin stuff and the air of relief was umm...tangible? in the air. to us, the horror was over.

DAY FIVE

going home day! ahha ahha ahha. ok. so we umm...went home. after lots of inspirational speeches and tearful goodbyes. ok fine there were no tears. but got lots of rainwater, it was raining cats and dogs that morning. we had to put on disposable raincoats to protect us from the cats and dogs dropping from the sky =) haha. reached ri then took cab back home. ahh. end of story.

Comments: oh well. most people say obs is fun. more say it sucks. hmm hmm. personally i think its damn tough. but umm....its quite exciting! lol. politically correct? i dunno leh

and went to see doc for sunburns and got cream to apply and one week pe mc! hahaha. >)

end of obs story. long pants next week ;) YAYYAY

i definitely earned every cm and inch of it (long pants). and every letter and syllable of the word seniorship. yay we're seniors of the school! haha. but still got sec 4s to contend with =(

okok new year post.

HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE of all shapes and sizes.

haha ok. hmm. i actually saw the fireworks. here was what happened. my sis insisted watching the fireworks so at around 8pm went to pick up my grandmother for eating at some obscure restaurant called Mariner's Corner...western food and all the usually unhealthy stuff. then went gallivanting (in a car). really. drove around everywhere doing nothing except sightseeing. then finally we went to orchard at around 11pm and omg got stuck in this massive jam. whoops apparently the police sealed off a road and we were stuck. there was actually music for us to enjoy (rather the horns of angry drivers blaring in unison). wait lor untill 12 midnight. woah i loved the fireworks. grand. took some pictures too. haha. then waited till 12.30 for the roadblock to be unblocked then went to the kallang kfc for cheese fries and went home. yay. what a new year.

sorry if i forgot to sms someone! my phone laggy and all that. even rich's phone better than mine liao. sigh SERVICE. i think i lost the receipt which entitles me to pay the FULL COST of service and repairs. NO WAY. PEOPLE BUY SONY ERICSSON. this is coming from a phone expert =) DUN BUY NOKIA IT HANGS/LAGS/LOSES RECEIPTS EASILY. SE rocks more sigh. haha. miss my old K750i :)

sian school reopening the day after tomorrow. woah actually tomorrow as its 1:53am now. listening to cds. ahha. went to borders today and ended up buying $90 worth of cds (sibelius-karajan complete symphonies, munch-mendelssohn symphonies 4&5, and dvorak symphonies 7,8,9,- kubelik THE BEST) . luckily my father was in the umm...new year festive mood and sponsored me. yeah. if nt it would have punched a deep hole in my pocket. haha. i love mendelssohn now. try his sym 4, italian. 1st mvmt. absolutely delicious.

OMG death note 2 rawked.

went to watch it yestercay (fri) with the gang + rama! lol. buy 4D people. anw haha. it was damn nice i think. lotslots of action, the story moved very fast, and we audience were on tenterhooks most of the times (esp me), and of course, I was rooting for Kira. whoops actually Kiras. as there were three.

Anw the story didnt end as in the comics. There was actually more, well u can read about it in wikipedia- plotline_of_death_note_comics or smthing like that. haha. im beginning to not hate L liao. hes quite ok lar. esp the part where he put on that gag mask. damn funny everyone was lmao (esp a particular group of noisy girls sitting behind us). L is cute!

ahhha so sad Light isnt god of the new world. ahhhh. ok. Misa is cute too. haha. anw i want to watch again soon. haha gonna get people to go with me =)

after that boliao around jaryl's hse where i learned how to play poker. basically u take a stick and start poking the person sitting beside you =) kidding of course. its quite complicated but boring. haha. then went to jurong entertainment center? where i bought this nice star wars book to add to my collection - IRON FIST. that's the name of a Super Star Destroyer, which is basically an 8-kilometer long spaceship in star wars with enough firepower to raze a planet to the ground. haha its very nice and ive finished it. gonna go buy the sequel soon.

speaking of which, my modem is down again. sian. how do u like a modem which keeps going off every hour? i have to like manually switch it off and on again. sian. pacific internet sucks people. go for singtel or starhub instead.

woah its 3am now and im typing/doing my chinese book review. woah. wow. sian.

i think ive groaned/sighed/lamented enough abt it on msn/blog. so i shant again.

oh the horror.

anw just finished reading a 400 page star wars book for fun. it was quite nice. nicer than the other book of course.

ahh and apparently rowling has released the title for her final hairy potter book. and the deathly hallows i think. hmm. i think harry will die. and i think dumbledore is dead, despite what dumbledoreisnotdead.com says. sometimes people think too complex when the answer is actually simple. what are hallows hmm. maybe something horcrux related. but one thing's for sure. it's deadly.

so 6am again eh. but i will probably not be able to sleep the night before anyway. in anticipation. i rmb not even being able to slp the night before chuangyi released the newest pokemon adventure comic the next day. shivering in anticipation eh. hmm

gods i wish it will be 1000+ pages long.

i think my sleep cycle/insomniac nature is screwed up/has arisen. now i envy people who feel tired yet do not want to sleep. people! do you know fellow people cant sleep even when they want to!? so the moral of the story is

never sleep at 4am once. it will affect ur slp cycle to the point of a week.

and zzz been watching lots of southpark recently again. most recent was the GO GOD GO! PART II and PART XII. i know it doesnt make sense but hey, its southpark :P

ok basically the plot (or lack thereof?) is that young boy Eric Cartman (who is fat, racist, fascist, sadist, anti-semitic, cunning, shrewd, and incidentally happens to be my favourite character) cant wait a seemingly eternal 3 weeks for the new NINTENDO WII to come out. so umm....he decides to follow the example of astronauts and freeze himself, entering a state of stasis? and entrusts his friend Butters to unfreeze him 3 weeks later when the Nintendo Wii comes out. sounds like a fine plan eh? except that umm...Butters couldnt find him even after 3 weeks and he umm.....was in stasis tilll 2507 i think. oh well shant spoil it. go watch :D

and discovered this new media player a few weeks ago called FOOBAR 2000. well, apparently many experts at the hydrogenaudioforums (no kidding, there IS actually such a site) are anti- WMP and recommend players like foobar. hahaha. i hate wmp as it cant play any lossless formats except its own WINDOWS AUDIO LOSELESS, which like umm sucks besides formats like FLAC (free lossless audio coding) and my fav MONKEY's AUDIO (APE). hahahaha. foobar can play anything. and convert too. and rip cds. so thats y i like it. =D

went to korea frm dec 6-11. 6 days. damn short but,, , but,...but

I SAW SNOW.

yes. that white colour, dinghy, lumpy (nothing stand-partner related here haha!) thing which ppl all aspire to see. haha. played with it too. building snowman was like. tedious. so i didnt :)
just threw snow around at the other small kids. and got missiled back in turn too. haha. FUN.

anw Sec 3 class allocations have been announced. haha. im in 3A with some friends. i actually took a photo with my phone of our 2H class allocations of everyone. but im too tired to upload here now, owning to the fact that its a late 1:53 am exact now and my phone lags. anw have faith. next yr will ROCK. today was 'double' performance in our quartet. lol played for some minister and later some art exhibition at bishan library....haha. luckily got audience....and CIP hours too ok! better have hor....as we're not getting paid. haha lol.

went to 'class outing' on Wed where we watched Casino Royale...oh wait. only at most 10 ppl turned up. so wad...mini class outing? haha took emo pics...but too tired to upload to com. someother day bahhs....and walked all around VivoCity! OMG the toysrus there is the biggest yet. haha...realised i havent blogged in a long time.....tsktsk! sigh all those late nights and music listening must have contributed. nvm shall start blogging again.

today went with vicjarylrich to orchard to watch the covenant, which btw, generally agreed to be the worst movie in quite some time. so well...dun watch it. i think the total absence of a believable storyline added to the general confusion of the poor audience. luckily still got popcorn =) ....but still. dun even think about watching it.

then zomg walked all around orchard road and haha convinced ppl to go borders where couldnt resist a cd (quite cheap, or maybe i go to hmv too often?)....and then went to plaza sing where i bought a star wars book...reading it now. haha quite interesting. jacen solo at the dark side =)....not bad. parallel to his grandfather anakin i suppose.

sigh someone just punched a big hole in my wallet. wait, i think it's me =)........haha....cant go out/spend money in the next few days lor.....sad haiz. GRR POCKET MONEY INCREASE....

the plot was dumb. but the action was cool. maybe it was" futuristic" as vic put it, so we normal life-forms couldn't really enjoy it. but wadeva, it was still quite nice lar. then went bowling (i suck) and "shopping" which culminated in myself reaching home at a humble 10pm. where i quickly took out my vln for some last minute prac for tmr's lesson at 11am. so sian rite. frequency of lessons so near. siansian

yay watched death note which was so fun =)

wait actually it was all last minute. anyway wad mattered was that the movie totally rocked my socks off. hahaha sooo fun! and yesh vic the monster was like so not-scary at all hahaha. go light! haha cant wait for the sequel in dec.

social etiquette workshop today. hou our performance is postponed, sadly, so craps had to sit through the workshop. eyer ok lar, with some stuff being relevant and some stuff being totally irrelevant (like the diff ways of how to fold a napkin! was tt relevant?). anyway i was smsing...WHOOPS. i mean talking to handsome and the rest. haha so funny handsome had to make fun at everything the guy said.....so. lol

and then had a talk on sexism-men vs women (at least that was wad i THOUGHT it was) where the male speaker (wearing a pink shirt like so many other speakers recently! do i see a gay trend?) . and i think he got all emo after delivering the talk to us that he started sobbing at the end.....poor guy =) definitely has issues......though i admit it was quite inspiring. aiyah smsed it away anyway...WHOOPS again.

then course options talk. sigh all the academic lectures....SOMEMORE sit in middle row, cannot SLP as ur under the close scrutinity of the year head at all times...so listen lor. anyway i will prob go for 10 subjs unless i can repeat my last sems's 3.66 though as the 2nd sems is always harder than the 1st, tt's unlikely.

pieces only got 26,27,25...which is the lowest ive every gotl. SIGH seems like my intonation and musicality were really crappps. shetshet esp the bartok, technically wasnt there at all. but sigh....haha so sad. luckily scales still get 17/21, SR 18/21 (LOL), Aural full marks. SIGH

and yes shangxuan congrats. 29,28,29 for pieces! haha too bad his secondary stuff not very good...if not dist confirmed liao....yesyes sx go show off. congrats again.

okok so my update frequency is decreasing......so i must strive to blog more. oh lol the amount of free time i have is inversely proportionate to the frequency of my updates? think that's the sad case. oh lol. really lol.

anyway sunday...sad. my father fell of his bike (ouch!) and sorta sprained his right hand. so driving is a painful activity for him suddenly....so he couldnt fetch me to buy cds...lol. so i went myself lor. the CDs at HVM are grossly overpriced. but i still go there at least once every two weeks :P as they have everything mah. from oistrakh-bruch to karajan-mahler...so go there buy lor. bought karajan-tchaik...now listening and enjoying.

after all, tchaik was a great melodist. though there was always that minor drawback that he was gay.

anyway yeah. and i realised on the way back that listening to hedwig's theme (my blog music currently!) makes u feel HIGH. yeah particularly the rousing second subject. so listenlisten yeah. i've send quite a number of ppl liao. all at their request :) so john williams rocks eh.

today's paper was actually quite okay. english was quite good, with the question on letterwriting being very broad-based, so there was room for a lot of topics, which was good for us! =D

pwzzzz went totally crAzy (or crasze) today! hahaz funfun

concert@Esplanade with shangxuan, DAVID!! :) alex and junior zhiyuan. funfunfun/ hahaz

personally i didnt like the guy's rendition of the universally-loved bruch vln concerto no. 1 at all. phrasing was TOTALLY off, intotation was sharp at times (vibrate too much!!) and worst of all, HE COULDNT PROJECT. his sounds was like soo thin. ! in a vln concerto, tts a killer. you MUST be heard. esp things like the beautiful melodies of the bruch vln concerto. haha but still went for his autograph...alex insisted :D

surprisingly, i was satisfied with the SSO rendition of the Beethoven Symphony No. 5, which is considered the most popular symphony ever written. brass solos were all there, and the strings were in sync. Tensions felt about just right, a crucial factor in Sym 5. however i still felt that the sounds was not as rich (as karajan?)...maybe cos of the acoustics of the esplanade...nvm haha durians cant have good acoustics. the sound just gets absorbed into the fruit:D:D:D:D

Standing ovation after...haha but SSO no encore! hahaz nvm guess it was cos it was a GUEST conductor. haha i think hes better than the SSO's conductors...managed to draw a deeper and more probing (beet) sound from the orch. hehe

funzfunzfunz after the concert walked all around Esplanade and the surrounding area GOING CRAZY. hahaz took funny photos and sang chinese! songs out loud. hahaz funfun. got home at around 11pm. eww walking home alone at night is scarrrieeee. btw the SINGAPORE HAZE is SUPER badbad. pollution!! damn u indonesia. bring this plague to us. sigh breathing was a pain at first lor...b4 i got used to it:)

sch today was merely ok. wad do u expect, 4 academic periods leh. though only till 12.50...then zao home liao.

science presentation today. before the presentation, another grp wanted to switch with us. i said no. then one member took the initiative to appear "sick"...so their grp need not present that day. reading between the lines, u get cowardly, un-rafflesian like behaviour. yes, im saying someone just ponned sch after recess just so as not to present today. stellar behaviour? u decide.

besides tt, our presentation was generally ok. my prepared ppt and script was stellar as usual, though the members did not quite live up to the high standards of it. it was obvious some of them just read the script for the first time...zzz. though i predict relatively ok marks....

today marked a historic moment in ri. nopes im not being sarcastic. WE MOVED TO THE NEW RAJARATNAM TEACHING BLOCK!!!

I love my new classroom. Cool aircon, spacious desks, and im now sitting beside KJ and Wei Kang!! dunno how tt happened...but im lovin' it! talktalktalk...wk and i hypothesised tt it's cause of our low voices tt teacher cant really hear us...instead they go jack ppl sitting at the back...hahaz JACKs. lollol

The only bad thing is....there are like mega-big transparent windows on the side...letting anyone peek in from the outside!! HA no soccer. And CERTAINLY no handphone playing.

finally....after today finally have time to take a breather after the hectic few days! ok today was totally stupid/tyco/IMBA.

1. Science presentation
drew lots to determine order of presentation. zomg i remember my team was like so super unprepared. however WE GOT SECOND LAST!! so we're actually gonna be presenting next week. IMBA IMBA yay! give us more time to prepare =)

2. English poetry presentation

supposed to be today. we were like all ready to die liao. Then suddenly mr yap asked where was the fourth member of our grp. We aleady didnt care abt him as he hospitalised for like 2 weeks liao. But then ppl started saying he's coming back to sch tomorrow. then mr yap said we postpone till Thurs!!! yay! how IMBA is that?

Science test was ok. Maths...LOL RE period became Maths. Got 19.5/20 for the recent test....however ppl like VICTOR and JOSHUA got like 20/20!!! how the heck was tt possible!?!?!?and how IMBA is tt?? haha SIGH i got deducted 1/2 mark for presentation....sian. inaccuracy also. i read 1 decimal place as 3 significant figures. sian sian. aiyah at least my Maths CA should be 4.0 lar.

tomorrow isnt a sch day! instead it's RE congress, where we go all round the sch to watch other ppl present their one year's hard work of ResearchEducation material in a presentation! This is seriously IMBA= our class has been *selected* to stay back till 3.30-4pm to watch the FINALS. godDAMMit the rest of the sch's released at 1.35pm. daomei daomei imba imba.

the stupid science atomic bomb project is killing me.

went to vic's house for three days straight liao. let's see...from bedok mrt to clementi mrt plus the bus and waiting time to go to his house is about 1 hour+. woke up at 8am to do the aforementioned travelling. then reach home 4pm likedat than STILL need to do powerpoint and script. SIAN.

Geog assignment also. stupid retirement villages. siansian still designing. and it's like due tomorrow.

on the bright side...oh heck there's no bright side. still got CTs in 2 weeks. shitshit havent started mugging yet. must start soon. and hehe the psle ppl's exams start next wed-tues. hehehe p6es including my sis are mugging intensively now. wish them all the best! incidentally today is children's day, and also my sis's birthday! lollollollolipop. later go cut cake =)

nothing interesting happened, even in chinese class. had ting1 xie3 (spelling!). hmph some ppl had the audactiy to copy directly from the vocabulary handbook while she was giving spelling! eyer hehe some ppl even put the handbook directly on the table to copy! hmm does this involve the notorious back row? hmm i dont know....

After sch went to buy stuff for our sci proj. we went, saw, but didnt buy. so i therefore wasted like 4 hours of my time. reached home at 7pm. hey sch ended at 1.35pm. Craps./

Four frickingly boring academic periods. all were ok.
after sch went to buy wad we were supposed to buy yesterday but no one wanted to buy it that time, so we bought it today! :) so fricking stupid. wasted even more time at victor's house doing project, some ppl were just soooo not serious. going home was just as tedious. like 15+ MRT stops + bus. reached hime at 7.30pm. this time, sch ended at 12.45pm.

and omg i just realised CTs are like 2 weeks away. better choing. this is so stupid: our class is one of those unlucky ones randomly selected to stay back next wed to watch RE congress till the end. s*** only end at 4pm while the rest of the student population gets to go home at 1.35pm. unfair!!!.....grrr.....

hahaz today was quite interesting....however the most interesting class was NOT Chinese?????!!!!! actually it was computer class. Hehe shall describe it in sadistic detail.

So first, everyone pulled out their chairs to the front to listen to the usual pre-test lecture which happened every week since 2 weeks ago. Listen, listen, talk crap with vic, then suddenly vic prompted me to look behind....hahaz couldnt stop laughing then....Xiangyu and xinghe were listening to xy's ipod, each using one white earphone! LOLLOL couldnt stop laughing i think chor glared at me. then, the main course:

"XIAN-YU, gimme that". btw she pronounces xiangyu as XIAN-U. so confiscated his ipod lor! haha then the whole class started clapping, cheering. wait i think i started it. oh wadeva haha she placed the ipod on her desk. pics:

i noe not very clear....hard to take secret snapshots of tchr's desk leh. yes the sad ipod mini is there.

Despite the already huge happening, something else was to come. Trouble between shang xuan and bryan. apparently bryan was calling shangxuan repeatedly during com class in retaliation for our exemplary class prefect smsing him during his RE finals yesterday. so LOLipop complained to aileen chor (both sides)...in the end bryan's phone got confiscated by chor. "You're not supposed to use handphone in class."- Chor. LOL then i also had my own share of bring jacked, as i found out that asknlearn, the online quiz/lesson maker, had a major glitch. If you changed your computer's time, you actually ADD time to the test! hehe vic taught me =) so i changed the computer time to 1985 and lo and behol! i now had 17000+ hours to do the quiz instead of the pathetic 30 min the other mere mortal beings in my class had. Guawwzz pwnz....chor saw and like scolded me. lollollollollolipop sigh im always getting scolded by her (along with abt 7 other ppl). nvm learned a new trick for extending quiz time. Yay!

Science was ok to boring...revision wad...how interesting can tt get. English as usual was crapps didnt do much except listened to a song and jaryl danced in class for us! lollol ok interesting.

Chinese was like supposed to be ting1 xie3 but apparently some ppl went to beg her citing insufficient revision time so postponed. did i prepare? wait i think so. okok did nothing much except do stupid worksheet again lor. wasteeee time. and got back my chi test paper- 95/100 of course. hehe noob lin ping got 90/100. apparently his question 3 ans differed from ours. haha copy wrongly? oops.

zomg today was super boring! almost slept in sci class (dun blame me, he was teaching via ppt the WHOLE lesson)....boring..!

RE (research education) finals today. five groups vied for the top three awards. and of course as there wasnt enough time for the groups to present in the 1-hour RE period, they held us back till 2.30pm!! sigh so sat through the whole 2-hour thing lor. ok lar...slept while the first two (boring) groups present (which incidentally both got MERIT only)...so i could give my undivided attention to the last three groups. PS someone was playing PSP under his bag in the right aisle. LOL. couldnt play hp when sittting on the seats. too darn obvious liao.

OK so went for MEP late. reached at 2.50pm (supposed to start at 2.15). i forgot that there was a malay drum workshop for MEP today. so choinged in and started the workshop. the WS was quite ok lar, however some ppl's rhythms were screwed up. haha hard to get the polyrhythms correct. sigh i hope next week MEP will get more interesting.

tmr got maths and philo test. (why do i haf the feeling i will not be studying for philo?) anyway crappppps my philo essay on the abortion debate is like 100 words extra. sigh cutcutcut! cannot leh...every paragraph seems important, dunno which to cut. sigHHHHHHHHHH!

btw 2B won interclass soccer 1-0 even though like 4 of their players were banned as they skipped music class to play soccer, so year head banned them. BUT THEY STIL WON!! being 'brothers' (same chi class) i was supporting them throughout the match. too obvious tt 2B was the superior team, so many missed shots at the goal (2A barely attempted goals). Luckily Andrew shot one in at the critical moment! hahaaha. go pai2 kia4! (naughty kids in hokkien, wad we call them). hehe demonstrated pai kia power throughout the whole tournament. using brute force to wi. hahaz yay go 2B!

chi class today was barely better. wait it was AFTER recess, so it was after 2B claimed soccer victory. B4 we went to class we hypothesized 'no need to teach liao lar, everyone celebrating'. i think she knew as she gave us this stupid WS to do. sadsad boring again. weikang and bryan were listening to my 'calculator' and when hulei told them to stop listening, they dropped my zen on the floor!! grr grr oh wait it cant be scratched/damaged any further so i wun blame them. so is my hp, dropped too many times liao.

Gack. today's sch was ok, with the lessons ranging from moderately ok to outright boring// there was even a touching one (last period). OK fine chinese class was very interesting today, bcause of a few things tt happened.

1. Green Day
Oops. I accidentally blasted out Green Day- Holiday again with xy's Walkman phone. haha however for 10 secs only. however everyone could hear :) :DDDDDDDDDD.

2. My Zen 'Calculator'

Two ppl, Wei Kang and XY, borrowed my Creative Zen Vision M to watch Southpark during Chinese class. u noe wad....they just like put it on the table and share one earphone each. Of coz she catch lar. Then when she told them to put it away, guess what xy said?----- "This is a calculator"- in Chinese. Dumb. Of coz she didnt fall for that lor (dude, although this tchr's dumb, i bet shes probably seen a MP3 player in her whole life b4). Zen was returned to me.

3. She got so pissed with the class

She started asking ppl why we were so noisy. Then asked who really wanted to study raise their hands. Of couse the whole back row (me and abt 5 other ppl) raise lor. The front row ppl started laughing. Then she started lamenting and telling us about her dedication to teaching Chinese in Spore....blahblahblah. n she brought 200kg of books from China to Spore just to facilitate teaching. sigh. touching. however some idiot was blasing out mosquito-tone during the lecture, so was quite irritating. sigh.

umm. so from now on we will pay attention and work hard for chinese!!!:DDDDD inspiring talk man. haha hope the rowdy 2B ppl realised smthing. And of course our notorious back row. XY however, remains strangely unrepentant:

Me: So xy are u going to change ur behaviour from now on?

XY: I promise to change.....for the worse.....

Lollollolipop. Sigh that's all the boring stuff tt happened today. feeling tmr will be even more boring (MEP!!). MEP's getting weird, with us doing nothing really significant. Sigh CT2's practical. Must go whip out something 5-10 min. Why do i have this feeling im gonna play Four Seasons (spring-autumn) when i nvr touched for so long liao?
maybe ATCL attachment. hmm.
Friend(joking)(i hope): OK, since the talk was so inspiring, i will change in chi class. instead of playing big handphone, i will play small handphone.

ok anyway bittorrent rox!!! downloaded the entire LOTR soundtrack (oops). YAY saved me $96 from those HMV ripoffs.....anyway haha really moving and touching and wadeva. hehe.

nothing interesting happened today. EXCEPT in Chinese class. ok here they are:

1. THE PPL IN THE BACK ROW ALL GOT 95/100 FOR THE CHINESE TEST

Thanks to me. haha. INCLUDING A 2B guy who didnt even read the book!!!haha everyone thanking me profusely after hulei announced the results. except lin ping LOL he didnt get 95/100. Haha i told him "hey why dun u go ask hulei for extra marks, reason: you copy wrongly". dotz. haha yesyes i know my chinese is pro. ok lar maybe cos i just read the book, which no one seemed to bother with ....?

2. I BLASTED OUT LOUD MUSIC IN CHI CLASS FOR 1 MIN

As i was fiddling with xiangyu's walkman phone, i suddenly blastesd out "Green Day- Holiday" at FULL VOLUME. LOL i didnt know how to switch off. i just sit there blurly while whole class look at me and xiangyu and linping were like "WTF! Switch off!". After 1 min of blasting out, I threw the phone to xiangyu who switched it off immediately. LOL! pained expression on tchr's face. sorry hulei! I really didnt know how to switch it off. Haha oops though it was fun laughter for the whole class/ xdxd

Maths Test next Wed :). and yay i got full marks for the recent maths topical assessment. though tt was easy lar. haha full gear for the test now! doing self-practice liao. haha mug.

today got chinese zuowen test! actually merely letter-writing lar. 20 marks only and cannot write too long, write too long will minus marks. hehe!

LOL some ppl actually bothered finding out the questions before the test. I told them liao no use one, the RI chi department not so dumb (though tts questionable eh?), surely change qns. and lo and behold, they did. LOL.

I think i did moderately well. hehe zuowen expert mah. haha kidding my chi is terrible. i cannot maintain a good chi conversation without tapping into eng haha. just found out. sad. aiyah at least my chi not as bad as other ppl, say chi like malay likedat. ok umm stop being evil.

CLINOMETER!! maths pt. 10 marks only lar but still must get >80 rite? ours was SCREWED UP. redo redo only started proper 30 min after the thing began. Eyer stand underneath hot sun look up through the straw at the top of clock tower is strenuous leh. sweatsweatsweat lol.

yarh first period was swimming. hahaz i cannot swim wadsoever. kidding larh can swin moderately well. umm some ppl busted toenails and chipped teeth:) ? haha

and HA com studies. LOL she gave a lecture for 20 min then we had to do this quiz on the lecture. LOL got 67 % i think. some ppl got 0% for it! dunno how they so pro one. LOL aileen chor (tchr) caught me surfing my own blog and told me to close it. okay the conversation was smthing like this:

Chor: Boy! Close that window
CBW: *closes window*
Chor: Boy. Do u want me to call your parents and tell me wad u've been doing in my class
CBW: umm...no
Chor: Boy! stand up and face me.
CBW: *stands up, eclipsing her by at least two heads

she shldnt have asked me to stand up. LOL taller than her by at least 2 heads, i think she also felt overpowered as she just said like "ok sit down". LOL!!!!

okok going to mug now. some ppl reminded me to :) :) hahaz uhmm wanna maintain 3.66 at least this semester. bb!

free periods!

whee! today was pretty slack. music, Science, english, recess, geog, RE! hehe actually had abt 2 free periods combined altogether....here's how they add up:

1. Science

bryan and xinghe managed to make the teacher stomp out of experation at about 35 min into the lesson. So almost 1/2 a free period liao. And he didnt return.

2. English

Photo-taking today! at 10am for our class. Delays and craps (inclu. wax-putting) then ended at 10.20. went back and tchr showed us photos from his china trip till 11am (recess). So 20 more min free!

3. Geog (after recess)

Haha! teacher had to go for photo taking for about 20 min so Yay! actually we were supposed to discuss something but who did/cared?? so 20 more free min.

4. RE

Nothing left to do! presentation and written report finish liao so only got our results. Being the hardworking leader tt i was, I got an A! lol. Then as we had nothing left to do, she dismissed us at 1.10pm! 1/2 hr before sch ended! yay!

hehe so total about 90 min free. Which is 1.5 periods. Yay! why cant everyday be like today :) :)

chi zuowen test tmr. mugging format now. wrong format will penalise heavily! go better mug:)

today's drama performance was good! stellar , in fact. haha i think we were better than all the other classes ok. ok we adapted a part of Julius Caesar- the play in to a Star Wars context (an idea which i pushed for endlessly ok). And it paid off! all the fight scenes, the acting was good . haha xiangyu said before the play , so as sx remembered, it was successful! lol

it was fun being props/costumes ic for a while, b4 ppl start nagging at u to do work. hehe n i went to toyrus last night to but 4 lightsabers for the play as 1. the actors were whacking their sabers so hard in the first rehearsal that most of them broke. 2. it's good to use professional star wars lightsabers. here r the pics:

phew the end of a long period of unhappiness and long mrt rides (to chinese garden!).

i still like scottish fantasy. haha rare. i like smthing for 2 days straight. must be because of heifetz's superb playing.

might change blog music. any ideas? i cant stand the same thing for a prolonged period of time :)
